Prop highlight β Contact Staff π₯
After attending Luminate festival 2015 in NZ and being blown away by some fire performances, I decided to find my first flow prop - motivated by the realisation that you could learn anything if your heart is set on it π₯.
I bought myself a contact fire staff - one that ended up not being the ideal tool for learning. It was under-sized, short on grip, and not that tacky, but I loved it and poured all of my free time into it. Days went by without me even noticing.
A month later I decided to try fire spinning - again not in the most ideal conditions, but it was thrilling and empowering.
Little did I know that over the following years I would dip my hands into a much wider variety of prop manipulation.
Now 10 years later it's also the prop that got me into prop-making, initially motivated to give lessons and provide material for them.
As I've been able to spin a diversity of props over the years, I put my focus into re-creating the handling that worked best for me:
- a longer shaft with ideal weight for prolonged training sessions
- unparalleled grip durability & tack provided by silicone
- handcrafted flowers to distribute weight & slow down rolling for maximum control
- and a touch of sparkles that add visual references for precision handling
I believe that choosing the right tool can make your learning journey much more pleasant and rewarding, saving you time and effort.
Taking the time to practice with a quality, custom, fire prop will also give you confidence when taking the leap to ignite.
