While Braden Van Eijk has been crushing prop building over the winter, I had the incredible opportunity to take the road with some loved ones. Going on an exploratory and culturaly enriching journey accross Central America has been an immense privilege that reset me with new energy and perspectives.πŸ™

I'm now back in the workshop with a bunch of fresh ideas that will come to life in the next few weeks πŸ’«

Here's one to the baton!
There are a bunch of props easy to travel with, like the rope dart, pois, leviwand and this one.
I ended up checking them all in with me to diversify practice and be able to flow with friends- some of which just did their first burn on this beautiful island πŸ€—

Prop highlight β€” Spinning Staff πŸ”₯

Spinning a staff is rewarding, accessible and empowering! The movements are intuitive to learn, and one of the safest props to burn - it's a great way to get started with flow arts.

I learned it at the same time as Contact Staff - as a complementary discipline that helped me understand how staff movement works. Mixing both was fun practice while I was in the process of learning more contact.

The ones I design and build are also for experienced spinners that want to be able to dive deeper into the practice, with:
Β° A light aluminum body, minimal components for fast spins & easy stalls,
Β° 45cm of silicone grip for the perfect touch and grip quality that allows for some contact moves,
Β° Custom holographic markers for precision handling and a unique look.

Prop Highlight β€” Levitation Wand πŸ”₯

Seeing a Leviwand in action for the first time is mind-bending. While all flow tricks can evoke magic to the observer, Leviwands rank highly.

This oddly balanced prop, swings around the body at a near vertical angle, while hanging off an almost invisible string to create an illusion of levitation. πŸ§™β€β™‚οΈ

Interestingly it is more accessible to learn than it looks! The feeling of it is unique and is a great way to practice dancing flow. πŸ’ƒ

Finding the balance while igniting your Levi will take practice to feel safe, but the journey is well worth the reward!

These are made perfectly balanced, with:
Β° Silicone grip for the ability to do contact,
Β° Fire-resistant Technora string,
Β° Custom top/bottom markers & holographic tape,
Β° Silicone k**b, or single suede leather finger-loop & stainless steel swivel.

Extra string can be added for a longer string setup to take it to another level. πŸ’«

Prop highlight β€” Poi πŸ”₯

As one of the most accessible and recognized flow prop, Poi are always mesmerizing to spin and watch. πŸ’«

I started learning it at the beginning of my flow journey. Although I haven't dived deep into learning it, it's a prop that translates movement with other props well.

Easy to carry around and always fun to take for a spin, I go back to them often and like them particularly for free flowing & tosses.

I started building them with features that worked best for me:
Β° A shorter leash for better movement accessibility,
Β° Spliced Technora for it's incredible properties, such as being fire-resistant, low stretching and very strong - It won't tangle like chains,
Β° K***s for easy throws, or single suede leather loops for a more gentle and free handling feeling.

Prop highlight β€” Contact Staff πŸ”₯

After attending Luminate festival 2015 in NZ and being blown away by some fire performances, I decided to find my first flow prop - motivated by the realisation that you could learn anything if your heart is set on it πŸ’₯.
I bought myself a contact fire staff - one that ended up not being the ideal tool for learning. It was under-sized, short on grip, and not that tacky, but I loved it and poured all of my free time into it. Days went by without me even noticing.
A month later I decided to try fire spinning - again not in the most ideal conditions, but it was thrilling and empowering.

Little did I know that over the following years I would dip my hands into a much wider variety of prop manipulation.

Now 10 years later it's also the prop that got me into prop-making, initially motivated to give lessons and provide material for them.

As I've been able to spin a diversity of props over the years, I put my focus into re-creating the handling that worked best for me:
- a longer shaft with ideal weight for prolonged training sessions
- unparalleled grip durability & tack provided by silicone
- handcrafted flowers to distribute weight & slow down rolling for maximum control
- and a touch of sparkles that add visual references for precision handling

I believe that choosing the right tool can make your learning journey much more pleasant and rewarding, saving you time and effort.
Taking the time to practice with a quality, custom, fire prop will also give you confidence when taking the leap to ignite.
