The merchant's counter that started it all. Whenever we work with a building that has history or character, we try to think of ways to highlight these in some way. Being 120 years old there's history but not much for that original character. So when we began thinking of ways to honour history and bringing that into the design, we came up with the idea of an old mercantile store where you could buy almost anything, and that giant front counter that's so typical for this type of store.
We immediately imagined dark wood, lots of details but on the chunky side -as if it was something that could have been there from the beginning. The traditional feel of this piece began the vision for the rest of the space; going away from the modern cleaner lines and embracing the traditional curves; away from lighter wood and into the mixing of richer wood tones.... It's been a journey, figuring out all these details and how do they fit together, all different but still speaking to each other as they move from space to space.
Front counter was built by 5 Point Contracting and we are beyond impressed!
