“Times they r a changin”!

We are adjusting to the new realities, doing online virtual antique and art shows and finding new customers from Texas to BC to NS. But we still miss the “old days” of face-to-face contact, the stories, the experiences, the sharing and learning.

So we are opening our barn. It is full of goodies from local barn finds, primitives, art to decor for the modern home. Contents are in constant flux.

We are open by appointment only, observing all public health protocols.

Look forward to a day in the country. Surrounding us are sweet farms, local produce stands, art studios, exotic walking gardens, bakeries (arguably the best butter tarts around), etc.

Please call for an appointment at 519-803-3945 or 416-889-9947.

See you soon. Barry and Karen

HUMP DAY #8
Normally this week we would be busy loading our truck for Christie. Alas. Instead we are listing four items that we had planned to take there.

The challenge we face is that at a show buyers would have touched, inspected, listened to, and used their expertise to determine if the items were right for them. Through Facebook touch, sound, testing are replaced by photos and conversations with me either through messaging or phone. So please ask as many questions as you like. More photos can be supported as well. Take care.

It’s Hump Day #6. It’s also 50 days since many of us have been locked down. And frankly it’s getting a bit old.

What I’ve learned over these past weeks is it’s easier to talk the talk than walk the walk. Almost every day I have kept to a gold standard of personal/family safety: if I went to the store I pre-ordered and used curbside pick-up, hand sanitizer (including my gloves!), etc. The post office is rural so had sanitizing and social distancing was adequate. For the few buying or selling personal contact times, gloves, masks by at least one person (usually me), hand sanitizer etc. were rigorously followed. I talked the talk and walked the walk.

Then this week, I relaxed. I went on a picking trip; hand sanitized, wore gloves and for my house call stayed outside for most of the time, bought things in the garage maintaining my social distance. But no mask. I didn’t want to set up social/psychological barriers when I was trying to establish a rapport and build up a working relationship. Several times I bought things that were handed to me, breaking the 6’ rule. But just for a matter of a few seconds each time. So to further my own ends to do business I took chances. So I get it, easy to talk the talk but harder to walk the walk.

I had a successful buying trip and what follows are some of the goodies I was able to secure this time out. More will be posted soon. Oh and I spent the whole next day researching what I had bought, who made it, etc. I am no expert but pass on what I have learned from more knowledgeable folks. Prices include HST. Shipping and handling is extra.

Keep trying to walk the walk. Stay safe.

Hump day #5! Welcome to the fifth edition as we stay home. If you want, jump down to the listings for sale. Or read on....

Yesterday I was at our rural post office. While the clerk was calculating the postage for my package a co-worker came up close behind her. The clerk turned and said “6 ‘ social distancing, I am serious”. The co-worker retorted I am not contagious and proceeded to cough into her partially clenched fist.

How do you describe this behaviour- callous, ignorant, uncaring, thoughtless, no big deal? A medical professional described it more objectively. She called it fatigue.

We are all tired of fighting against an invisible enemy. This has gone on for over 6 weeks now. Many people haven’t seen first hand the consequences or experienced the loss. But the lesson here is that we must keep vigilant in our fight to protect our and our family and friends health and safety. At the same time we must remain courteous and polite and civilized yet firm. This is not a time for conflict or stepping back to undo all of our efforts.
