Being Canadian, I've struggled over what to do with my website given the impending trade war with the USA. At the moment, I've chosen to remove the merch section on my site, as all my suppliers were American. I also will no longer ship to American clients, as I don't have to time or energy to sort out the tariff issue. I am considering taking my site down completely (or transferring it to a straight-up portfolio site), since the majority of online inquiries come from scammers anyway, and most of my sales are done at art shows.
While this feels like a step backwards, I'm just too tired to deal with it all. If I run an ad, I get a slew of nasty comments. My inbox is filled with scam emails and my DMs are full of people wanting NFTs, or random, unknown men wanting to chat. I miss the early days of social meda, where we built community and shared insights. Now it feels like one big scam. It has really sucked the joy out of creating.
I will keep my page up, for now anyway, and might check in now and then to show off a new project or let you know about a show. But the days of my daily posts are over. There is no point to it, since hardly anyone sees them. So, for the foreseeable future, I'll be here in my little corner, quietly working away. I wish you all well.
