Inspired by Yalda Night, also known as Shab-e Yalda, is an Iranian celebration that marks the longest night of the year, which falls on the eve of the winter solstice. It’s an ancient Persian festival that predates Islam and has roots in Zoroastrianism. Yalda is a celebration of the triumph of light over darkness, symbolizing the lengthening of days and the return of the sun.
Families and friends gather together on Yalda Night, staying up late into the night, eating special foods like fruits (especially pomegranates and watermelons), nuts, and various traditional sweets. Poetry, storytelling, and conversations are also central to the celebration, fostering a sense of warmth and togetherness during the long winter night.
