Appliance placement should be considered early in the kitchen design process because it affects more than where each appliance will sit. It influences cabinet sizing, counter space, workflow, electrical planning, and how the kitchen functions day to day.
A few things to consider early include:
• Appliance dimensions: Fridges, ranges, dishwashers, wall ovens, and built-in microwaves all require specific openings, clearances, and surrounding cabinetry.
• Door swings and access: Appliance doors need enough room to open properly without interfering with nearby cabinets, walkways, or other appliances.
• Counter space: Landing areas beside the fridge, range, sink, and oven make the kitchen easier to use when cooking, unloading groceries, or cleaning up.
• Workflow: Appliance placement affects how easily you move between food storage, prep, cooking, and cleanup zones.
When appliances are planned from the outset, the cabinetry can be designed around function instead of adjusted around limitations later.
