This Roy "Doc" Halladay peice commemerates his perfect game. Doc is my Favorite Jay's pitcher of all time. Followed by Jimmy Key, Juan Guzman, Roberto Osuna and the Heinke/Ward combo.
When I'm ranking the greatest Jay's pitchers of all time, I'm only looking at time spent with the Blue Jays.
My number one will be Controversial. Pains me to give it to the guy because I dislike him so much, this was also during the time that performance enhancing substances were beginning to be used in Baseball. Roger Clemens. You can make arguments for Doc and Steib both with longer tenures and more loyalty to the organization but, 2 triple crowns, 2 Cy Young awards and 2 all-star appearances in a 2 year stay with the Jay's closes that argument to me.
Number 2 is Dave Steib, 7 all-star appearances and the only no-hitter in Jay's history.
Number 3 is Roy Halladay, 6 all-star appearancesand 1 Cy Young. If it had been the first in Jay's history he would be ahead of Steib. He is the Jay's pitcher I have the most memories of watching. The only good thing about those Jay's teams of that era and the last true ace the Jay's had. That Kyle Drabyek deal sure worked out great for the Jay's didn't it. A perfect game and a playoff no-hitter with the Phillies just add to his lore for me. My favorite pitcher period.
Number 4 no offence here but the next class of pitchers is a significant step down. Pat Hentgen. He wasn't as dominant for aslong but for 5 out of a 6 year stretch he sure was. 3 3 all-star and Toronto's first Cy Young winner.
Number 5 is Jimmy Key, my second favorite Jay's pitcher of all-time. Clutch in the first world series win and a 2-time all-star.
David Wells and Juan Guzman both get honorable mentions
Best relievers Heinke and Ward. Toronto doesn't really do relievers well. Osuna was a something to watch. Remember watching him strikeout 3 betters on 9 pitches. As a rookie.
