Thanksgiving always feels like a lovely reminder to appreciate what matters most.

As a designer, I spend so much of my time thinking about the way we live in our homes, but it's the people we share them with who give those spaces their meaning.

Today, I'm especially grateful for my family, the wonderful people I have the privilege of working alongside, and the clients who trust us with such a personal part of their lives.

A lower level should never feel like an afterthought. It is an opportunity to make more of the home, and we believe every square foot deserves the same level of consideration.

From the intimate gathering area and beautifully appointed guest bedroom to the custom bar, layered living spaces and richly detailed bathroom, every room has its own character while feeling connected to the next.

For us, the real measure of a kitchen is how it lives when the house is full.

Enough room for several people to move through the kitchen, a generous island that naturally draws people in, and places to sit that make staying part of the experience.
We design for those moments from the beginning. Not entertaining as an occasional event, but a home that makes having people over feel easy.

There’s something about the right wallpaper that can completely change the way a room feels. Here, this small scale pattern brought softness and character to the deeper tones in the room, making the bathroom feel warm, intimate and a little unexpected.

A few wallpaper tips we swear by:

• In a small room, don’t be afraid to wallpaper every wall. It can actually make the room feel more complete rather than smaller.

• If you love a bold pattern but are nervous about committing, a powder room is one of the best places to use it.

• Look at a large sample in the actual room before ordering. Wallpaper can look completely different once you see the repeat and the colour in your lighting.

• If the room already has a lot happening, try a smaller scale pattern. It adds interest without competing with everything else.

• Pull one colour from the wallpaper for your trim or millwork. It’s one of the easiest ways to make the whole room feel intentional.

There’s something about a dark, enveloping room that makes you want to stay awhile. We carried the colour across the walls, trim and ceiling and let the warmth of the oak, leather and brass play against it. It’s moody, yes, but it also feels incredibly inviting. A walk in closet can be more than a place to get dressed.

In this principal suite, it connects the bedroom to the ensuite, making it part of the daily experience of moving through the home. We treated it accordingly.

Custom millwork wraps the room in dark stained oak, creating generous storage while giving the space the same architectural presence as the rooms on either side. The richly veined stone and aged brass add contrast, while the lighter oak floors carry through and keep the room connected to the rest of the suite.

It is a good example of why we believe millwork should be considered as part of the architecture from the beginning. When function, material and proportion are resolved together, even the most practical spaces become an integral part of the home.

I believe one of the biggest misconceptions about working with an interior designer is that our job is primarily to design the home.

Of course, that is where it begins. But for our Full Service projects, my role and my team’s role extends far beyond the design itself.

We are there through the decisions that happen long before construction begins, and then throughout construction making sure what we designed is actually being executed as intended. We coordinate the trades, manage schedules and budgets, problem solve on site, oversee deliveries and installations, and carry that same level of attention right through to the furnishings, art and final styling.

For our clients, that means the entire process is managed under one umbrella. The same team that developed the design is there to oversee its ex*****on, working alongside the contractor and trades to protect the details, resolve issues as they arise and make sure the original design intent is carried all the way through.

That continuity is a big part of why we believe so strongly in Full Service Design. A beautiful design on paper is one thing. Seeing it all come together? Well, that’s where we really shine.

A new kitchen should feel new. But it should also feel like you.

For this kitchen, every architectural detail was considered, from the deep blue cabinetry and custom hood to the warm wood island, lighting and finishes. But equally important was what we brought into the room afterwards.

Vintage art, an old copper kettle, collected pottery and pieces with age and patina were layered throughout, giving the room personality and keeping all of that beautiful newness from feeling too perfect.

We believe there should always be room in a newly designed home for the things you’ve collected, inherited or fallen in love with along the way.

The goal isn’t to make a new home feel old. It’s to make it feel like it could only belong to you.
