March 1, 1692.
Today we remember the lives forever changed by the Salem Witch Trials.
What began as fear became accusation. What became accusation turned into hysteria. And hysteria cost innocent people their names, their dignity, their families and their lives.
Twenty people were executed. Many more were imprisoned. Most were women. Some were simply different. Some were outspoken. Some were vulnerable. All were human.
The Salem Witch Trials are not just a story about the past. They are a reminder of what happens when fear overrides compassion, when rumor replaces truth, and when communities look for someone to blame instead of seeking understanding.
May we remember the accused. Not as “witches,” but as mothers, daughters, neighbors, and friends.
May we learn to question narratives fueled by panic.
May we protect the vulnerable instead of persecuting them.
May we never repeat what fear once justified.
🕯️ In memory of the victims of 1692.
