So what do I know about sushi? Let me tell you my story. In 2005, I moved to Japan to teach English, travel around, and eat ridiculous amounts of sushi. The years passed, and somehow along the way I then picked up a Japanese husband, and later had a little Japanese child, both of whom cannot live without rice and nori.

We all moved to Orangeville to put down roots in 2017, but after enjoying the best, most authentic sushi in the world in Japan, it was unbearable to buy takeaway sushi from a supermarket. Cold, hard or squishy rice. Bland textures. Limp nori. No, that would not do.

So, instead of going out for sushi, which is often an expensive meal, we made it at home for ourselves. And then for family. And then for friends. And neighbours. I’ve found that making sushi for and with others is such a fun and delicious experience that I started up Miso Hungry to show you that anyone can make basic sushi at home.

Here’s how it works: We come to your home and bring all the ingredients and tools you need for a sushi rolling party. Step by step, I will show you and your group how to make two different types of rolls, and then, everyone can sit down and enjoy the meal (while I clean up, of course). The host gets to keep their own sushi making kit, so that you too can make awesome sushi at home and wow your family and friends. (Or, eat it all yourself, which is totally understandable.)
