So here is the result of last week's idea and along with it a recap. I started off with eight little boxes approximately 2 1/2" square and a bit shorter than that in height. I figured I would use them as drawers somehow. My initial thought was to do a forward-facing cabinet with eight drawers. Small drawers like that are prone to falling out, though, so I came up with a second idea that combined two drawers into one, making them longer, and instead of front-facing, I decided to make the drawers slide side-to-side. That first decision locked in the rest of the project as I just had to build a shell to house the drawers. To that end, I used a 2x4 to construct the sides and structure and the bottom and top pieces come from a piece of a pine table structure that one of my neighbours had left out for the trash. The k***s match on each side of the drawers but are four unique pairs, all of which I had picked up used through an online auction. The stain colour is English Chestnut, the inside of the drawers and the bottom of the feet are lined with cork, and it measures roughly 8" x 4" x 10 1/2". For me, this project really proves the value of coming up with multiple ideas for a project and then choosing the less obvious one. Have you ever seen a chest of drawers like this one? Me neither. That's why it's cool.
