Progress at our beautiful New Edinburgh project:

Walls have been freshly painted a soft white to brighten up the often dull natural lighting, in addition to offering a fresh backdrop for the client’s art to take stage. Previously the walls were beige.

Living room now has custom rug size mapped out with green tape, we will be doing a beautiful multi level green wool-nylon blend rug. The idea is to add interest and grounding but not overwhelm the space.

There will be a coffee table custom designed by us to replace the existing one, pendant lights and picture lights are coming, art will fill the walls, a new lounge chair and ottoman.

The kitchen has been fully updated with refaced cabinetry ( originally shaker white doors ), new backsplash, new countertops, new handles, sink and faucet, all that’s left is a new rug by sink.

The console you see will be having a mirror above which we are currently sourcing. The key element will be uniqueness to balance well with the unique art of our client.

Lots more for this home is also in the works including updated dining room and ensuite bathroom.

Our latest review 🎉😍

When we were at the point where we were ready to renovate our family bathroom, our chosen renovator recommended that we involve Jessie of Saslove Design. Our design process with Jessie was impeccable. She took the time needed to learn what our natural decorator style is, how the renewed space would fit into the overall decor of our house and our needs. For some time, we had been despairing of finding a solution for the space that would match our vision of a clean, chic, sophisticated, uncluttered, and durable new bathroom. A trip to Japan in 2023 had raised the bar and until Saslove Design was on the case the idea of a bathroom incorporating a luxurious soaker tub and a shower in the same waterproof enclosure seemed impossible. A little thinking outside the standard North American box and Jessie hit on a layout that looked like a winner right away and made all of what we wanted possible. She was moreover tireless in finding finishing products such as ceramic and related products, plumbing and lighting fixtures and accessories that would complete the vision and complement each other. She also procured these items for us and vetted and retained a top-notch maker for the full custom vanity and cabinetry which completed the fit-out. She was on site to supervise and check over all critical aspects of the installation. The reward, for us, in all of this, has been a bathroom that is next level, a delight to make use of and a durable step-up in the liveability of our whole house. I would have no hesitation in recommending Saslove Design for the provision of comprehensive design services for any home renovation and will be involving Jessie for consultation on any future significant renovation project in my home.

Our Glebe bathroom project is beyond sophisticated!!!

It was clear from the first visit to the client home, that there was an appreciation for contemporary design and fine woodwork details, along with natural materials.

I showed the client a few bathroom inspiration images to gauge his overall vibe he was drawn to, he adored one with full travertine walls. I ran with that inspiration, but instead of doing real travertine, which requires a lot of maintenance, I found one for the walls and another for the floors which looks impressively just like the real thing!

The wall tile has a satin finish, rather than polished or matte, polished oftentimes reflects highly, which can detract from a peaceful bathroom, and offer a glam look, which was not the sophisticated, masculine energy, we were striving for.

For the vanity cabinetry, there was interest in more exotic woods, we looked at different options and landed on African Mahogany with collaboration of the talented cabinetmaker. The wood brings amazing warmth to the contrast of the cooler tones in the space ( chrome, glass, soapstone look counter and whites ) and the framed style cabinetry brings a classy feeling and a bit of a surprise to everything else which is more sleek. The hardware from is the perfect industrial addition, which looks substantial and very handsome I must say, it gives luxury briefcase vibes, when in combination with the wood cabinetry.

For the bathroom to allow a full size freestanding tub, we had to reposition the doorway to the other end of the room and move the plumbing. The result is a wet zone with both a shower and full size tub, completely worth all the labour to make this happen!

The glass sink was chosen because it brought cohesion to the home’s powder room bathroom, which has a full glass sink and counter vanity top. And being so thick rimmed the sink really brings great beauty to the counter!

The counter is a soapstone look quartz with blue undertone, it compliments the orange/red of the mahogany so beautifully.

I’ve been told that even though this is the husband’s bathroom, the wife often finds herself in this bathroom’s tub 🛀

Forever changing and evolving, but some things stay the same.
Just like my taste in fashion, my taste in home fashion is forever evolving.

The dark blue sofa I purchased for my last home back in 2019, and I to this day love it, it was bought at the Hudson’s Bay company and was designed by Arren Williams, it was available in many custom fabric options, I almost went for orange, but I’m so happy I went with dark blue, which goes with so much more yet isn’t neutral, I wanted colour and texture which this delivered on.

The decorative pillows have changed over the years, the most recent acquired ones display my love of animals, uniqueness ( not everyone has tigers on their sofa )… and a part of my more intense personality 🙃 and they’re made in Canada by Lady Rosedale, they were found at Zone Maison along with the creamy area rug, which brings softness and tactile texture to my home ( I’m ALL about tactile texture ), the beautiful throw was bought at and compliments the pillows perfectly.

The wall art has taken it’s round in many different areas of my home, I like that it brings sheen to my walls and is special because it was one of the first pieces I ever bought. It was bought in 2018 at Home Sense, now my taste has flourished and I tend to avoid big box store art, but this is called growth and curation over years.
It’s not about throwing everything away and starting all over, it’s a process to refine what you truly love and feel good with… clearly it still makes me happy otherwise it would be up for sale on marketplace!

In the second photo, I was standing in the original kitchen and looking towards the clients’ original sunken family room, which became the new location of their kitchen.

The reason we made this relocation of the kitchen, was to allow for a larger space with better flow and functionality for this growing family.

The floor was raised and the original kitchen area became the dining space and the family room moved to where the original dining space was.

The one aesthetic request the client had was for sage green to be included, then we ran with that colour and made this amazing beauty of a kitchen 💋
