Ceramic vs. Porcelain: The Tile Truth Every Homeowner Should Know
As an interior designer, I often get asked: What’s the real difference between ceramic and porcelain tile?
Here’s the short, expert answer.
Both are made from natural clays and minerals, shaped and fired in a kiln. But porcelain is produced from more refined clay, then pressed under higher pressure and fired at temperatures exceeding 1,200 °C. The result? A denser, harder, and far less porous material that resists moisture, staining, and wear.
When to choose each:
Porcelain: Ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, high-traffic floors, outdoor areas, and commercial spaces, anywhere durability and water resistance matter.
Ceramic: Best for decorative walls, backsplashes, or light-use interiors where flexibility and easy installation are priorities.
Design is not just about how something looks, it’s about how it performs over time. The right tile can transform a space and withstand the realities of everyday living.
Sometime the biggest difference you'll see is in the smallest spaces!
