It's a big one, friends. ✨

Saturday, June 13th is Knit in Public Day, the annual international celebration where knitters, crocheters, and makers of all kinds take their craft out into the world, and this year it lands on the same day as Owen Sound Pride! 🌈

We're open 10am-4pm, and instead of our usual 1pm-3pm community stitch, we're knitting all. day. long.

Bring your makes downtown and find a spot to stitch before the parade kicks off at 3pm. A bench by the harbour, in the stacks at the library, a sunny corner in front of a coffee shop, your favourite lunch spot, or right here at Riverside all make pretty good spots to work on a current WIP, if you ask us. Then when 3 o'clock rolls around, grab your WIP and take it to the streets! 🧶🏳️‍🌈

And because we love an excuse to celebrate, we're doing a giveaway! Make a purchase in-store or online on June 13th and you'll be entered to win some Riverside related goodies! 🎁🧶🎟️✨

Tell me about your WIP situation 👀 I’m a forever multi-project knitter, usually one big ambitious thing (a sweater, always a sweater) and several smaller ones I rotate through so I never get bored. We are so happy to have these upcycled project bags in the shop right now. 🧶

Made by Cherry Blossom Collective out of a little home studio on the island of Montreal, each one is completely unique, put together from vintage, found, and recycled textiles. Many of them have this wonderful nostalgic feel to them, which we just love.

They're roomy enough to hold your current project, a couple of skeins, and all the little things you carry along, but still easy to loop over your arm and go. Soft, practical, and full of character.

We have a few colourways in stock right now. Grab one in person or online! 🌸

The glamorous life of owning a yarn shop!

Today’s to-do list included bookkeeping, packing online orders, placing inventory orders and washing the front windows, among other things

Turns out running a little shop means being the buyer, shipper, cleaner, accountant, and occasional window washer all in the same afternoon!

Some jobs are definitely less glamorous than others, but getting to care for this little shop in all these ways feels really satisfying and special

Joan and Grace have been having a little fun knitting up a couple of Pressed Flowers Kerchief samples for the shop 🌸🌸🌸

One is knit in Peer Gynt from Sandnes Garn (100% wool) and the other in Silky Wool from Elsebeth Lavold (a blend of silk, wool and nylon). Two very different feels, but both so lovely in this pattern. The Pressed Flowers Kerchief by Amy Christoffers is a free pattern on Ravelry, and it’s such a great first foray into mosaic knitting if you’ve been curious to try a new technique.

It’s the perfect little neck scarf for spring, when there’s still just enough chill in the air to want an extra layer. We love how flexible this pattern is too, endless possibilities for colour and fibre combinations, and you can easily play with the size by adding extra motifs.

Happy Mother’s Day to the moms, grandmas, aunties, chosen family, and mother figures who teach us with patience, creativity, and love.

To the ones who passed down their knitting needles, sewing baskets, crochet hooks, or simply encouraged us to make things with our hands, thank you. So many creative traditions start with someone saying “here, let me show you.”

Today we’re celebrating everyone who helps keep creativity going, one stitch, project, and shared moment at a time 💛

🌸 We're so happy to be part of Upcycle TOM 2026, a sustainability project by the Tom Thomson Art Gallery in collaboration with local elementary students that puts art, creativity, and repurposing front and centre.

We're proud to display not one but two works this month inspired by Tom Thomson: 🌼 "Flower Power" by Ms. Rayner's Grade 4 Class and 🌿 "Lost in the Wildflowers" by Ms. Crysler, Tanielle & Ms. Myles, Office Crew!

And here's the fun part: you could take one home! Bidding is open and the highest bidder at the close of the exhibition on May 31st wins the artwork. 🎉

We love seeing creativity and sustainability go hand in hand, and this project is such a lovely example of that. Come see the pieces in person, and explore the other creations scattered around the River District. Free tote bags available too (while they last)! 🧶♻️
