What you see is the finished pottery, what you don’t normally see is how many tests it took to make it.

I have been testing and tweaking this pink/purple glaze for months and what I have found is that the results are going to vary greatly from pot to pot, making each one that much more unique.

GLAZE TESTING // Why are there so many tests? Because that’s how varied the results can be especially when layering glazes. Because it’s not like mixing red paint with blue paint to get purple.
Each little swatch is a variation of a glaze recipe, changing the materials even just a little can have a big impact. How thick the layer is, which clay body it’s on, where it is in the kiln and which kiln changes the results.
These tests were all done this year because I wasn’t getting consistent results so I played around with multiple variables keeping in mind each test has to be weighted, mixed, applied, documented then goes into the kiln for at least 24hrs before I can analyze the results.

Why do I do this? Because it’s just one more way to make my pottery uniquely mine.

Cicadas!! We get so many of them here in Cavan Ontario 🇨🇦 they literally scream summer vibes.

I tried to make these look like real cicada colours but I am going to make the next batch to be more whimsical with the colours.

Just like the Luna moths (previous reel) some are made to hang invisibly with a loop on the back, while others have connection points on the tip of each wing.

What do you think?!

Do you like the idea of a more whimsical colour palette or do you prefer the more realistic?
