Over the years, many hands have shaped and painted our pottery alongside Marsha and Daniel.

For nearly 40 years, Rainy Zandvee has been one of those steady, creative hands, moving in and out of the studio through the seasons. From Winger to Grimsby to Jordan, and now back in Port Colborne, she continues her work with brush in hand.

There is a subtle shift in the pottery these days. A brighter light touches the dragonflies, and a softness and playfulness has found its way into the petals. She is gently blending patterns, giving each piece its own quiet, unique spirit.

It feels like the early stirrings of spring, something waking and becoming. And it’s easy to feel that Marsha would love the way these patterns are now coming together as one.

Our shop will be open this Sunday, 11 to 4.

Fork Road Pottery was shaped by many hands, and at its heart was Marsha, her skill, her eye, and her deep devotion to clay.

Over the years, Fork Road has been a place of learning and collaboration, where other potters trained, created, and signed their work, and where many gifted painters brought surfaces to life alongside the clay.

Before her passing, before she even knew she was sick, Marsha had invested in a large supply of clay to complete the many orders she had received.

For months she worked hard, spinning and forming many dishes that were left unpainted or only partially finished in the studio. After the news of her illness, everything paused as we tried to process and support her.

Daniel and the rest of the team are now carefully completing those pieces and creating new ones from the remaining clay, in the same studio, using the same glazes and tools they all worked with.

Most of the new pieces are signed by Daniel, as they should be, but they are being made in fulfilment of Marsha’s intention… to see that the materials and forms she created become real, usable pottery rather than going to waste.

Offering them now is not about replacing Marsha; it is about honouring her plans, her community, and the life she built through Fork Road Pottery.

Long before recipes were written down, rum pots were a way of saving summer, fruit gently resting in sugar and rum, slowly turning time into flavour. In kitchens across Germany and the Caribbean, this quiet tradition became a way to honour abundance and patience. What begins as simple fruit ends as something warm, deep, and shared.

These two, extra fancy, rum pots are tucked away in the back with the rest of our collection, but we do have a few out on the floor too if anyone would like to take a different one home.

Maybe this is the year you give a rum pot a go… something to slowly build through the seasons and share with friends when winter arrives.

Over the coming months, I’ll be sharing more of these one-of-a-kind pottery pieces and the stories behind why they found their way into our collection and perhaps, if one speaks to you, it may be ready to find a forever home with you.

On a cold winter afternoon,
Marsha was partway through painting one of her delicate dragonfly plates when she decided it was time for a cup of tea.

While she was away, one of our furry companions took the opportunity to wander across the table… and straight through the wet paint, leaving tiny paw prints trailing across the plate. 🐾

Marsha never got upset. That was her way. She simply laughed and said,
“Well, I guess this one is staying with us.”

Instead of fixing it, we kept the paw prints just as they were. We adjusted the design around them and even recorded a little message about the moment, so we could all remember it forever.

For the next decade, she ate her meals from that plate. And every now and then, she would smile, remembering Princess and Luci… their mischief, their warmth, and the joy they brought into our lives.

A small accident turned into a memory.

A simple plate became a story.

And love left its mark, exactly where it belonged.

I think I waited to post this because I didn’t want Masha’s passing to feel final.

These are photos from Marsha’s celebration of life in late November, where so many like-hearted people came together to honour her through share stories, laughter and delicious food.

She touched our hearts in so many ways, making time for everyone and leaving a mark on countless lives.

Being in that room, I could feel her light drawing people in, even those who hadn’t met before.

One of the things I noticed while I was there was all the unique patterns and designs of pottery — pieces I had never seen before. I’d love to see more! Do any of you have special or unique pottery pieces you could share pictures of?
