New in the shop: Personalized Cribbage Boards!!

This one started the way a lot of our favourite pieces do. We already make custom cribbage pegs, a customer asked if we could build the boards to match, and it just made sense.

Each board is cut from rough sawn cherry or black walnut, purchased from our local saw mill Bass Lake Sawmill, and laser engraved with your family name and the year it all started. The kind of thing that gets played every holiday and, eventually, handed down.

What we love about them:
• Keyhole on the back so it hangs on the wall like art between games
• Magnetic storage box on the back to keep the pegs from wandering off

New blog post just went up, about something we don't usually make: metal business cards.

We laser engrave them for a couple of local businesses (Hydra Plus Irrigation and Earth Unlimited Worx, if you know them), and I got a little carried away writing about why they actually work.

Here's the thing about a normal business card. Doesn't matter what industry you're in, everyone has one, and most of them are the exact same rectangle of card stock. A quick glance, then a drawer, then the trash by the end of the week. That's not a knock on anybody, it's just what happens when a hundred people hand you a hundred identical cards.

A card that's cold, heavier than expected, and catches the light like brushed metal doesn't get that treatment. It gets held a second longer. Shown to a coworker. Kept on a desk instead of filed away. The card becomes the reason someone remembers your business, weeks after the conversation ends.

Seth Godin has a whole book about this idea, Purple Cow. Basically: being forgettable is the actual risk, not being different. If you're a small business owner tired of blending in, this one's for you.

Did you know we make custom co****le boards?

It's not something we shout about often, but it's one of those projects that always ends up being a favourite. Every set is different, and the briefs people bring us are genuinely fun to work with.

Two recent builds worth sharing:

A neighbour came to us after seeing some of our custom work and wanted a set for his backyard — Toronto Maple Leafs themed, but with a little honest self-awareness built in. "Just Once Before I Die." If you're a Leafs fan, you already understand. If you're not, just trust us — it lands.

The other set was a commission from a good friend. Bride of Chucky themed. "Double Trouble. Wanna Play?" White boards, red edges, Chucky and Tiffany in layered vinyl. Absolutely unhinged. We loved every second of it.

Every set is built on a solid wood frame with a half-inch plywood top, CNC-cut holes, and handles in the sides. They cost a little more than what you'd find at a big box store — because they're built to actually last.

She's been keeping that construction paper card in her nightstand for 23 years.

You know the one. Your kindergarten handprint. The backwards R in "forever." She still gets it out sometimes when she thinks no one's looking.

This Mother's Day, give her something that doesn't have to hide in a drawer.

Our signature candle comes with a laser-engraved maple, hardwood lid. Put that old drawing on it. Her mom's handwriting from a recipe card. The photo where you're both laughing so hard you can't breathe.

When the candle burns down, the lid lives on. Neodymium magnet on the back means it goes right on the fridge. Where she'll see it every morning with her coffee.
