Before that, from 1996 to 2007, Nelson worked as a wood finisher for two large custom cabinet manufacturing facilities in Red Deer, Alberta. During this time, he perfected his skills in sanding, hand staining, spray staining, glazing, distressing, color matching, and custom crafting cabinet doors and decorative items such as mantels and wood hoods. From 2007 to 2009, Nelson worked for a local cabi
net manufacturer, after he moved back home to Prince Albert. Accordingly, Heartland Kitchens is not a company that was created overnight, as there is over 21 years of experience behind its owner, in the custom cabinetry manufacturing industry. Nelson was a leader in his departments, but he came frustrated in a trend that is characteristic of bigger business: to favor speedy profits over quality workmanship. Nelson's friends and family would be the first to tell you just how meticulous he is. Attention to detail, in a tailored and customized way, is the foundation of Heartland Kitchens. Working out of his home, with the assistance of a supplier, Heartland Kitchens designed, sold, and installed 16 kitchens in no time. Nelson was extremely busy and, in less than one year from opening for business, he moved to a shop to assist with the demand and to enable him to manufacture his own brand of custom cabinetry. Since then, over 100 happy customers have had Heartland Kitchens installed in their homes, often at a price less than the alternatives. Furthermore, Heartland's success to date has been with little advertising, and the majority resulting from word-of-mouth. In 2012, Nelson incorporated Heartland Kitchens and he continued to work hard to meet the demand for his quality product.
