Hidden Gem Woodcraft

From rough slab to something special.

There’s something pretty satisfying about taking a rough piece of locally sourced wood and slowly revealing what’s hiding underneath.

This slab has plenty of character, and flattening it is just the beginning. The grain, natural edges and unique shape are already giving me some ideas for what this piece could become.

A lot of the work happens before the finished piece ever takes shape — milling, flattening, drying, and figuring out how to make the most of what the wood has to offer.

Stay tuned… this one is going to be a good one.

Super excited to share this set of handmade bedside tables, The Silverwood. Crafted from silver maple with a clean birch cabinet and subtle birch inlay detailed into the legs.
The subtle contrast between the silver maple grain and the warm birch tones brings so much light and character to the bedroom. Simple, modern lines paired with timeless woodworking details.

The shop is pretty full!
We have Black and English Walnut, Acacia, Chinese Elm, and tucked away is some beautiful Birch. All of these are BC grown hardwoods, yes even the Acacia that one comes with a very unique story.

Road tripping to pick new hardwoods is a unique experience. Finding the right hardwoods for my projects is a skill in itself, but I love it! Thanks mark at The Country Sawmill, check him out next time you are in Lake Country

The Writer's Bench, where raw grain meets refined design. A new piece for the books.

This piece blends classic woodworking with a clean, updated aesthetic. A minimalist design, with a functional integrated low back rest, and focus on showcasing the natural, rich Chinese Elm wood grain

The Writer's Bench features legs that are subtly tapered which grounds this piece with a sleeker, mid-century silhouette. The smoothly contoured, sculpted arm and backrest supports soften the strait lines, giving it a high-end, custom artisanal feel.

This was 4 years ago! Time goes by fast and having these memories pop up on my phone makes me smile. We put this in the front flower garden and it’s still there although it could use another sanding and stain lol

The next build starts now.
These boards are about to become a pair of custom mid-century modern bedside tables.
On the right is Silver Maple, carefully sourced from The Country Sawmill in the Okanagan. Paired with locally harvested Birch from Prince George, this project brings together two incredible Canadian hardwoods each with its own unique grain and character.
I love building with materials that have a story. From the forests of Northern BC to the Okanagan, every piece of wood is chosen with intention.
Now it’s time to let the design take shape.
Stay tuned as these rough boards are transformed into something built to last.
