Home Again Restorations

The extent of the home improvements we can do ebb and flow as the rest of life happens. Parents aging in place and a granddaughter speeding through the preschool years, in addition to our day jobs, made us wonder about tackling another reno. But we've purchased a house and the design is starting to formulate in our heads. Renos will be done on a slower schedule due to the high priority of family.

I guess we recovered from our first reno flip project because we're looking at houses again. Not sure if we're crazy or courageous! But there's something about restoring a home in our community that pulls us toward considering doing it again.

While we've done a whole modern makeover for this well-built house from 1972, I had to leave a few nostalgic nods to the 70s. Who all remembers sitting by the phone alcoves and pulling the cord to maximum stretch when needing a little privacy? 😆

In between family gatherings this Thanksgiving weekend, we've been busy with renos - the kitchen cupboard doors are on (I'm drooling over the pantry!), wood is stained for the kitchen's open shelving, insulation is added in the attic (the new homeowners will be cozy warm this winter!), old cupboards are sold, trim, trim and more trim is installed, and Dwayne is caught in the eternal loop of mudding and sanding to get the bathroom walls juuussst right.

Oh trim, you are my nemesis! You just take SO LONG to deal with; just when I think we're almost done, there's a whole other stack waiting for installation - it's a good thing you make things look so sharp once installed! [BTW, we really ARE loving this modern and minimalist style of moulding!]

This is a side of home renos most don't see - the paperwork! Soooo many receipts and small papers with measurements and lists! I'm very grateful for our local Home Hardware where we often run multiple times a day for all the things we need!
