There’s no reason your TV has to be the focal point of the room.

When I’m designing a space, I think about the television the same way I think about every other element: where it lives, what surrounds it, how it relates to the architecture, and most importantly, how it looks when you’re not watching it.

Samsung’s The Frame remains one of my favourites for its customizable bezels and art mode. And now there are more art-forward options, including LG’s new Gallery TV, so the old “big black box on the wall” doesn’t have to be your reality anymore.

Because good design isn’t about hiding the way you actually live, it’s about making the everyday look beautiful, too.

There’s something about a bed that feels finished and thoughtfully put together, but never too perfect.

A few things I always keep in mind:

• Start with beautiful basics. A comfortable mattress, down pillows and a lofty duvet.
• Mix your textures. Think linen, cotton, velvet and wool. This is what gives the bed depth and texture.
• Play with your pillow proportions. I prefer a mix of euros, two to three smaller accent cushions and a long lumbar to finish things off.
• Add a little movement at the foot of the bed. A wool blanket, quilt or throw, casually laid across the bed, adds a relaxed, collected feel.

For me, the goal is always the same: a bed that looks beautiful, but more importantly, makes you want to climb straight into it.
