Introducing another artist from the Morbid Curiosity Group Show - happening at 11 Bridge Street, Renfrew ON until September 19th 2026!

About Pet Maur’s Weird Toy Factory:

From an Industrial Age of disposable junk. A wasteland to some, a source of inspiration to others; Petr Maur brings life to unwanted technology, upcycling a variety of materials into unique creatures that stir interesting conversations in any room. Petr Maur is a Set Photographer, Graphic Designer, and maker of Weird Things. He constantly observes and looks outside the box for interesting and questionable things in life. Making art from discarded junk is a form of meditation. Petr hopes to inspire others to think outside the box and find a solution to our disposable sociey.

What’s on display:

“Levitating Head 1” and “Levitating Head 2” are part of a series of creatures made from doll parts, suspended in mid air using electromagnets, which allow the dolls heads to float and spin without physical support. Horror enthusiasts and collectors of curiosities are loving these sculptures which include home-made electromagnets and AC power adaptors. They are available for $1,400.00 CAD each and are now on display at Art Factory in Renfrew!

Octopus 1 is part of a series of creatures assembled from found items and custom-cut scrap metal - it also has a working music box on the bottom to give this cutie its own spooky soundtrack. It is now on sale at Art Factory for $800.00 CAD.

We asked artists to submit artworks that inspire their sense of “Morbid Curiosity” (and boy, did they deliver!). We received countless submissions that push the boundaries of how art can capture the human experience - especially the things that fascinate us because they scare us.

MORBID CURIOSITY Group Show is LIVE now at Art Factory Renfrew

We asked artists to submit artworks that inspired their sense of “Morbid Curiosity.” We received countless submissions that push the boundaries of how art can capture the human experience - especially the things that fascinate us because they scare us.

One of the local artists in the group show is Jonathan Gutz J Gutz

Based in Pembroke, Ontario, Jonathan Gutz is currently exploring gel plate printing; a process in which acrylic paint is applied in layers to a flat gelatin plate before being “pulled” onto a sheet of paper or other material. This medium allows him to incorporate found textures, stencils, and image transfers to create unique, one of a kind monoprints.
