Still sitting on the lathe, this is a 6" x 3" Cherry Bowl with a Pyrophyllite stone inlay set into the rim. It is freshly finished with its first coat of hard oil
Stone inlays are challenging and time consuming, but the results are worth the effort.

Back in the studio after a series of unfortunate events in 2025 that included a flooded basement. The shop was spared, and we have a brand new family room, so not all bad.
The bowl I turned today is local ash burl, about 8" x 3". There's lovely, swirling grain throughout, which should pop when finish is applied. Stay tuned!

Here is a Maple Burl bowl, about 9 1/2” x 2 1/2”. This wood was harvested from a local tree in Rothesay that had to be taken down. I air dried this one for several year’s before turning.

I was able to prepare 4 more bowl blanks from my local wood stash. From bottom to top they are:
11 x 5" Maple
9 x 5" Elm
8 x 4 1/2" Ash, and
6 x 4" Maple
Now to see what's in there. The Ash looks particularly interesting. Lovely colourful swirls, perhaps...

Well, I'm calling this matched set done! Both bowls are made from the same blank, so even the grain matches.
Both bowls are Walnut and Curly Maple.
The large bowl is 11" x 6".
The smaller bowl is 8 x 4".
