Karie Wylie, also known as "Moma" is also the artist and designer behind a line of Home decor fabric works using West African Textiles. A graduate of the Textiles Department of Alberta College of Art and Design she is also a weaver and avid fan of the handicraft baskets of Bolgatanga Ghana. Big Blue Moma has been importing Bolga Baskets for about two years now for retail and wholesale sale.

This place-this place...

One of my favourite road trips is from Quebec City to the tip of the Gaspesie Peninsula and when I get here-My entire body exhales.

This is St Flavie.

On my drive to Prince Edward Island last week-I made the 40 minute detour to visit it.

L’un de mes road trips préférés, c’est celui qui va de Québec jusqu’à la pointe de la Gaspésie. Et quand j’arrive ici, tout mon corps pousse un grand soupir de soulagement.

C’est Saint-Flavie.

La semaine dernière, en route vers l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard, j’ai fait un détour de 40 minutes juste pour y retourner. ❤️

And then there are the colours-the COLOURS! Since moving out to Quebec six years ago I have developed an almost giddy excitement about the reds, oranges, yellows and browns I see this time of year. No offence to Alberta, but nothing compares to Autumn in the east.

Et puis, il y a les couleurs… LES COULEURS! Depuis que j’ai déménagé au Québec il y a six ans, je suis devenue presque euphorique à la vue des rouges, des orangés, des jaunes et des bruns qui nous entourent à cette période de l’année.
Sans vouloir offenser l’Alberta, rien ne se compare à l’automne dans l’Est du Canada!

October is also a very plentiful month for wild mushrooms. Foraging in the forest is our favourite activity here at Big Blue Moma-and we get out there whenever we can.

Foraging for us really starts with Morels in May, but October is the best time-so much to learn in Autumn.

Octobre est aussi un mois très généreux en champignons sauvages. La cueillette en forêt, c’est notre activité préférée chez Big Blue Moma, et on en profite dès qu’on en a l’occasion!

Pour nous, la saison de la cueillette commence vraiment en mai, avec les morilles, mais octobre reste le meilleur moment. Il y a tellement de choses à découvrir en automne!

Can we talk about October? The best month of the whole entire year (my opinion). Not only do we have a turkey day for Canadian Thanksgiving , but we also have Halloween which is, and always has been my favourite "holiday".

On peut parler d’octobre? Le meilleur mois de toute l’année (à mon avis)! Non seulement on a droit à un festin de dinde pour l’Action de grâce canadienne, mais on a aussi l’Halloween, qui est, et a toujours été, ma fête préférée!
