🛠️ PRO TIP from the job site!

When your tar paper meets finished materials like Hardie board, leave it long until after the stone is installed!

For years, I’d cut it back early, only to have to mask it off again to keep mortar off the Hardie board while parging. Then I realized there’s a better way!

Leave the tar paper long, install your stone, and cut it back afterward. It saves you a step, saves time and money, and helps create a better seal where the materials meet.

✅ Less wasted time
✅ A better seal

Solo man today. 💪

41 years old, 24 feet up on scaffolding, and putting in a full day’s work.

Scaffolding built, all the roofs covered in plywood, paper and mesh installed, and stucco stops all in. Not a bad way to kick off a new project!

Some days you just have to step back, look at what you’ve accomplished, and appreciate the work you put in. Especially when it’s all on your own.

Day one in the books, and feeling damn accomplished. There’s something satisfying about putting your head down, getting after it, and watching a project come together one step at a time.

No shortcuts. No excuses. Just hard work.

This Thanksgiving, I’m feeling extra grateful for the opportunities to create something different, work with my hands, and turn a pile of stone into something that will stand for generations.

There’s something about natural stone that just hits different. The texture, the colours, the details, and the way every piece comes together to create something unique.

This doorway is a perfect example of how stone can transform an entrance into a true feature. Every corner, every return, and every little detail matters. It’s not just about covering a wall in stone — it’s about creating a look that belongs there.

OUT WITH THE FAKE. IN WITH THE REAL. 🪨🔥

This fireplace was ready for a serious transformation! We ripped off the old fake river rock and replaced it with the real deal — Tofino Sky natural stone from K2 Stone.

The natural colours, unique shapes, and character of every individual stone bring a whole different level of depth and texture to this space. Finished off with that solid timber mantel, it’s a perfect combination of natural stone and wood.

This is what happens when you take the time to choose the right materials and let natural stone do what it does best.

REMEMBER: STONEMASONRY IS MORE THAN A TRADE. IT’S AN ART.

Give 10 stonemasons the exact same pile of stones and tell them to build something with it. You’ll get 10 completely different results. Every mason sees the stone differently. Every cut, every placement, every joint, and every detail tells a different story.

That’s the beauty of natural stone. It’s not just about stacking rocks and filling joints. It’s about having an eye for the stone, understanding how the pieces fit together, and turning raw material into something that looks like it belongs exactly where it sits.

Choosing the right stonemason can completely change the look of your project.

PROJECT BRICK 🧱🔥

Bucket after bucket, up and down all day! Getting mortar 20 feet up to the top of this chimney is a workout in itself. 💪

Big push today, and we officially reached the roofline! One step closer to wrapping up this transformation and moving on to the next cool project.

Huge thanks to Dana for the help today! Every good job takes a team, and I appreciate the extra hands.

Project Brick 🧱

On to the last piece of the puzzle — the chimney! 🔥

What a transformation this house has already gone through. New soffits, fascia and lighting by Up Front Exteriors, and a whole lot of brick work by Granata Masonry bringing it all together.

We’ve got one big push to get this wrapped up this week, then it’s on to the next cool project in Vernon.

Brick by brick, the vision is coming together. 👊🧱

River rock fireplace 🪨🔥

All ready for its pot-belly stove!

For this log home, we wanted the masonry to feel like it belonged there — so we used Cultured Stone river rock to tie in with the rest of the home’s natural features.

Lots of rounded stone, tight fitting, and plenty of time spent finding the right piece for the right spot. The result is a fireplace that feels like it’s been part of this log home forever.

Now all that’s missing is the stove, a fire, and a cold night outside. 🔥
