Love Rocks!
These hand painted hearts were born from a mother’s love, an outward expression of my heart. After picking up a heart shaped stone at the beach one day, I was inspired to paint 100 love rocks, one for each of the guests invited to my son and his bride’s wedding. I used orange and turquoise as the colour palette, to match their favourite colours. The wedding had extra loving significance, as just 10 months earlier, the same son, at 26, suffered an intense seizure in his sleep (on the night of his graduation ceremony from advanced Care Paramedic school). This began a fast and traumatic dive into the world of glioblastoma brain cancer, emergency brain surgery , and months of intense treatment. The diagnosis was grim, but the reality was LOVE!
The outcome, one year later, is a thriving, vibrant, life filled son, a family and community that showed how much they care.....and an amazing new daughter-in- love. We all discovered a new view on the meaning of life.
Love everyone, love life, love adversity, love nature, love yourself.....because......LOVE ROCKS!
Fast forward to today, and I am still making Love Rocks! and, by popular demand, I am making them available to you to buy. The colour palette is bright and joyful. The rocks are all special finds I have collected from the wonderful beaches of Salt Spring Island. Every single one is hand painted with love by me, Cathie Grindler, in my seaside art nook in Ganges Harbour. The rustic wooden frames are handmade, by me as well, with recycled weathered cedar, to showcase the painted hearts and make an absolutely gorgeous piece of art. No two are ever alike.
