An allowance is not a selection.

An allowance is simply a placeholder in the budget. A selection identifies the actual product, supplier, colour, finish, quantity, installation requirements and real cost.

That difference matters when you are comparing renovation estimates. One contractor may include a small flooring or tile allowance while another includes an amount that reflects the products you actually want. The totals look different—but the scope is different too.

Detailed selections and specifications create clearer pricing, make contractor quotes easier to compare and reduce the chance of budget surprises after construction begins.
