Zenfire Pottery & Mercantile Connecting Earth, Hands, Mind & Heart
Pottery with positive intentions. Boutique of local artisans My world was opened to the endless possibilities of clay.

Artist Statement

My goal is to create work that connects with you, uplifts you and comforts you as you use it. There is raw emotion that goes into the hours of hand labour involved in each pot. Always, I set positive intention before a long day in the studio that each pot will bring joy to any hand that touches it. I first fell in love with pottery when I saw a black, non-traditional mug 10 years ago. Today, I am creating my own pieces, each with their own purpose and message. My work is based primarily on practicality; therefore a lot of my inspiration comes from necessity. Forms that are used in everyday life, touched by nature inspired texture and design. The texture gives lift, dimension and life to any piece, while the connection to nature keeps us grounded. The glaze colours I choose accent that texture to truly show its beauty. Pottery is a way for me to use my love of working with my hands to pull together everything I stand for; family, grounding, simplicity, strength, patience, collaboration, perseverance and peace.

We’ve got some beautiful new pottery in the boutique!👀

We came across Wheelband Pottery from Dundas at a market recently and loved her work, so we’re very excited to now have some of her pieces at Zenfire.

We already carry work from so many talented local potters, and we’re always looking for pieces that feel well made, thoughtful and a little different from what we already have!

Welcome Fiona Wheelband! We’re so excited to have you.

I had the most fantastic opportunity to be part of a wood firing last week! Thank you so much to Bryan Y. for hosting us and our pots.

This experience was so amazing. A perfect combination of some pretty awesome people, a little laughter, a whole lot of learning, all with a side of 3am stress 😂.

I had the pleasure of working with Fiona Wheelband Fiona McKay Deborah Schippling on the overnight firing crew.

Swipe through to see a few of my pots that came out. These ones I’m quite happy with. Some others did not make the cut on this post 😜.

I’ll be sharing more soon!

My heart is full! 🥰🥰

The amazing and talented Christine Torres will be in the studio next month showing us her surface decorating tips and tricks.

Join Christine at Zenfire on Sat Oct 17 from 10am-3:30pm for a Monoprinting on Pots, hands on workshop.

What is monoprinting? 🎨
Monoprinting on clay combines the spontaneity of printmaking with the tactile nature of ceramics. Participants will use underglazes and slips to create colourful, layered images on newsprint. These images will then be transferred onto leather hard tiles. We encourage students to bring straight, smooth, leatherhard cylinders to practice on.

$225+ tax includes all decorating materials & tools

Beginner friendly.
