Wondering what to do with your lavender plants in the Fall?

I may give my lavender a very light trim in August but other than that I leave it alone until Spring. Although some varieties are cold hardy for Zone 5, they can still struggle from a harsh winter. Leaving them unpruned will give them more winter protection.
When Spring arrives you can trim them back but make sure you never trim back into the wood of the stem. They will not produce new growth if you do this.
Not pruning your lavender will have it become woody and leggy. It will also begin to bloom less and less over time.

Have you ever seen the purple-brown spots on your peony leaves and wondered what it was? Will it hurt my plant? How do I get rid of it?

This is Peony Leaf Blotch. And although it doesn’t look attractive it does not harm your plant. It just doesn’t look aesthetically pleasing.
Basically it is a fungus.

To prevent this you need to water at the base of your plant and not on top. Any water laying on the leaves will cause this. So yes, heavy rains, heavy dews and high humidity will do the same.

Try to make sure when you plant your peonies they have a space big enough to allow lots of airflow to try and help prevent this fungal disease.

In the Fall cut your peonies to the ground and remove any foilage from the soil that has been affected and hope for a fresh start next season.

Did you know you don’t have to leave the flowers on your hostas?
I have some clients that simply can’t stand the flowers and have me always cut them off. To each their own. Some just like the hostas for their foilage. Some variety’s have the most beautiful honey suckle scented flowers 🥰

Fall is coming……Do you cut your hostas off??
Many of my clients like theirs cut off in the Fall.
It’s not a must do task but if you see major slug damage on your hostas I would suggest cutting them off and cleaning up all the spent foilage around them to reduce the same problem next year.
