On a cosmic scale:

Carbon is common.
Diamonds are not especially rare.
Processed biological materials like wood are extremely rare.

Diamonds form naturally in planetary mantles, high-pressure environments, and meteor impacts.
They don’t require life.
They just require pressure, carbon, and time.

Wood, on the other hand, requires all of this at once:
a stable star
a rocky planet in the habitable zone
liquid water
photosynthesis
an oxygen-rich atmosphere
multicellular life
vascular plants
millions of years of ecological continuity

That stack is orders of magnitude rarer than the conditions needed for diamond formation.

And that’s not even in the top three reasons I specialize in wood.
Glitter is cool.
Chatoyance is divine.

This was a real challenge.
That’s why we took it on.

Months of effort:
scraping what was left of university math
developing a new skill with new equipment: sub-millimetre large-scale 3D scanning
sharpening our CAD chops
hiring hard-to-source outside expertise:
working with material that doesn’t forgive mistakes and can’t be replaced

None of that shows. That’s the point.
That’s the win. That’s why we’re here.

This is a custom we've been looking forward to a while and we visited Toronto this week to capture the bench shape to layout the exotic lumber slats and manufacture them.

We added a 3D scanner to our toolkit, and thanks to for the efficient in person pickup after being let down by logistics and Amazon before and during our trip down. While im at it, thanks to the phenomenal sales staff at for the help, advice and directions, glad I could choose the instead of the equivalent Pelican. I had no clue before, and my new 935 case is awesome!

The big walnut lathe project is finally in its restored state, waiting on a new plaque explaining the 2025 revival of this sailboat race on Loon Lake. I think the new base looks sharp as could be for this big old trophy.
