At Parris McKenna Design, we create timeless, highly considered homes that are as functional as they are beautiful. As our studio continues to grow, we’re looking for an experienced Senior Creative Designer and Senior Technical Designer to join our Toronto team.

If you’ve ever found yourself completely immersed in one of our renderings, there’s a good chance Lily is the reason why.

As our Intermediate Designer, she’s the person bringing our ideas to life through technical drawings and detailed Revit renderings, helping both our team and our clients visualize a space long before construction begins.

She plays a role in projects across every location, quietly keeping things moving behind the scenes with incredible care, precision, and consistency.

But beyond her technical talent, Lily brings something just as valuable to our studio.

She’s endlessly kind, supportive of everyone around her, and always the one keeping the energy light. Whether she’s jumping in to help a teammate or bringing a little more laughter into the office, she makes PMD a better place to work every single day.

The detail we keep coming back to: wallpaper.

In almost every project we take on, it finds its way in - sometimes boldly, sometimes quietly, but always with intention.

It’s one of those elements that immediately shifts a space. It adds depth, character, and a sense of history that paint alone doesnt always achieves.

We’re especially drawn to how wallpaper can carry through a home in unexpected ways - wrapping walls, lining powder rooms, and extending into drapery in matching prints.

That kind of continuity brings a quiet richness to a space. It feels considered, layered, and deeply personal.

It’s not about trend or excess. It’s about choosing moments where pattern can do what it does best: soften architecture, add warmth, and make a room feel collected over time.

One of our favourite transformations at Hawthorne wasn’t about adding space, it was about finding it.

By relocating the primary ensuite within the existing footprint, we were able to create a bathroom that feels dramatically different from the original.

A steam shower replaced the tiled walls and tub, and dual vanities replaced a single sink. Every decision was made to support busy everyday routines and serene end-of-day wind downs.

The result is a primary bathroom that feels like it always could, and should, have been there.

One of the most common things we hear from clients is: “I can’t explain why this house feels so good.”

And that’s exactly the point.

The spaces we connect with most aren’t usually defined by a single piece of furniture, a paint colour, or a beautiful stone slab.

They’re shaped by hundreds of quieter decisions happening in the background.

The placement of a window.
The height of a ceiling.
The proportions of a doorway.
The warmth of the lighting.
The way materials flow from one room to the next.

Individually, these details might seem small. Together, they’re what create homes that feel calm, cohesive, and effortless to live in.

Good design isn’t always about what people notice.

More often, it’s about what they feel.

Basements are often treated as an afterthought.

A place for storage, overflow, and the things that don’t quite fit upstairs.

But when we first walked through this space, we saw something different. We saw an opportunity to create an entirely new layer of living.

Through a last minute underpinning decision and a complete reimagining of the floor plan, what was once a large open room became a series of spaces designed around how the space needed to provide comfort and function: a big, comfy seating, a fireplace, a guest bedroom, a bathroom, a home gym, and a sauna.

Every square foot was considered. Every nook was given a purpose.

One of our favourite parts of design is helping clients see the potential in spaces they’ve stopped noticing.

Because sometimes the most impactful transformations aren’t additions. They’re just re-imaginations.

Not every project calls for custom furniture.

But when it does, it’s usually because we’re trying to solve something that an off-the-shelf piece simply can’t.

A room that’s missing a gathering place.

An awkward corner that could become a favourite seat in the house.

A space that needs better proportions, better functionality, or a stronger connection to the architecture around it.

Custom furniture lets us design for the room, instead of asking the room to adapt to the furniture.

It’s one of the ways we create homes that feel layered, considered, and deeply personal to the families who live in them.

Because the goal isn’t to fill a space.

It’s to create one that feels like it was always meant to be that way.

We wanted this entry to feel warm, welcoming, and quietly timeless. The kind of arrival that feels inviting from the moment you walk up the front path.

These gas sconces were one of those details we knew would shape that experience.

There’s something about real flame that electric light simply can’t replicate. The movement. The softness. The way it reflects against stone, copper, and wood as the evening sets in.

They weren’t the simplest detail to execute, but they were one we continued to advocate for because they contribute so much to how this home feels.

When we design, we’re always thinking beyond the finished photograph.

We’re thinking about arriving home at dusk.

Guests being welcomed in.

The glow from the front walk.

The small moments that make a house feel lived in and loved.

Sometimes it’s the details people notice last that have the greatest impact.
