A goshuincho is a traditional Japanese accordion-style book used to collect goshuin, the handwritten calligraphy and red seals received at temples and shrines.

Made in Japan with Mino washi, these designs by 【公式】古川紙工株式会社 feature Mount Fuji, welcoming Maneki Neko lucky cats, and an Ume Musubi knot with a little dog, each bringing a touch of good fortune.

Use one to collect goshuin, or make it your own as a travel journal, mini scrapbook, or place to keep favourite memories in2027.

Our much-loved calendars from 一九堂印刷所 have arrived again this year.

Thoughtful, beautifully made, and full of small details to enjoy all year long, they also make lovely gifts. Quantities are limited, so we recommend choosing your favourite early.

We Nagamochi Shop | 長持商店 are so happy to be joining our friends Menya Kyu Hamilton Ramen and Craft Brewery & Event Space in Hamilton for a special pop up in Hamilton. ( yay! Our first popup in our favourite city, Hamilton!)

Come by for a bowl of Menya Kyu ramen, a Grain & Grit b**r, and a browse through a selection of Nagamochi goods. We’ll be bringing our 2027 Japanese calendars, kitchenware, books, incense, and little things for everyday life.

It feels especially meaningful to be doing this with friends, and we’d love to spend the afternoon with you too. Come say hello, enjoy ramen and b**r together, and take your time looking through the finds.

With holiday shopping around the corner, it is also a lovely chance to see our pieces in person. Many Nagamochi finds are one of a kind or available only in small quantities, so please come early if something catches your eye.

A Fairlady Z… as a Tokyo police car. 🚓🇯🇵

And this one wasn’t just a toy car fantasy.

The high performance Nissan Fairlady Z432 really did serve with the Tokyo Metropolitan Police highway patrol in the early 1970s, with several cars assigned to patrol the newly opened Chuo Expressway.

Tomica turned that wonderfully unexpected combination into No. 44 in 1971, a sleek Japanese sports car dressed in classic black and white police colours, complete with a red beacon and 警視庁 lettering.

There’s something about it that feels straight out of a Showa-era Japanese police drama.

And if the combination of Fairlady Z + police car looks familiar, there’s another fun connection: a later generation Fairlady Z, the S130, became the famous “Super Z” in the 1980s police-action series Seibu Keisatsu.

This particular Tomica is an official 2000 reissue released for Tomica’s 30th anniversary, bringing back the original No. 44 in its nostalgic black-box packaging.

Part miniature sports car, part little snapshot of Japanese motoring history and very, very Showa. ✨

This Tomica No. 28 Toyota Crown Taxi has the kind of look that instantly brings to mind the streets of Showa and early Heisei Japan.

The bright yellow and red body, little white taxi sign, タクシー lettering on the doors, and wonderfully boxy Crown shape all feel unmistakably nostalgic. It’s the sort of everyday car that once blended into the cityscape, but now feels full of character.

The original Tomica Crown Taxi debuted in 1971 as the very first taxi in the Tomica lineup. This particular model is an official reissue released in 2000 for Tomica’s 30th anniversary, bringing back the early Crown Taxi design together with its retro black-and-yellow box.

At 1:65 scale, it also features opening front doors, rolling wheels, and suspension.

We especially love that it isn’t a race car or a flashy sports model. It’s a small reminder of ordinary Japanese street life, with all the charm of the Showa and Heisei eras packed into one tiny taxi. 🚕✨

Tiny boxes, so much personality.

These vintage matchboxes were once everyday advertising in Japan, handed out by cafés, restaurants, bars, and local businesses.

But look at them now and they feel like little pieces of graphic art. The illustrations, lettering, colours, and wonderfully retro designs each give us a tiny glimpse of everyday Japan from the Showa era.

We currently have three different designs, from a charming kissaten coffee shop matchbox to a smiling sun logo of a small financial company.

Display one on a shelf, frame it as tiny artwork, or add it to your collection of Japanese vintage ephemera.

Each design is sold individually and available now at Nagamochi Shop.

Note that they are empty vintage matchboxes. Matches are not included.

Planning a trip to Japan?

This little book is a great place to start if you want to learn Japanese you can actually use on your trip in Japan.

And you don’t need to know hiragana or katakana yet. The Japanese comes with romaji and English explanations, so complete beginners can jump right in.

Here’s one of our favorite vintage finds for the cooler season 🍂

This large Japanese kakishibu uchiwa is made with bamboo and paper coated in fermented persimmon tannin, which gives it its deep brown color and helps make the paper surprisingly sturdy.

These kinds of fans were practical everyday tools in Japan, often used to send air into a fire for cooking or heating.

That is exactly why we think this one is perfect for fall camping. If you are building a campfire or getting charcoal going, this big uchiwa moves a lot of air and is much more fun to use than a piece of cardboard.

The lucky mallet painted on the front is another detail we love, and the back still carries the name of an old fishing tackle shop, suggesting it was originally made as a promotional fan.

Each one has aged a little differently, with its own stains, brush marks, fading and kakishibu texture.

Perfect to take this straight to the campfire this fall 🪵🔥🏕️

Black or silver? This one is honestly hard to choose.

The silver has a lovely retro feel, and the matte black has a cool look that reminds me of a Japanese cast iron kettle.

I use the black one, and Meg uses the silver, so we clearly couldn’t choose one favourite either.

The matte finish is what makes this teapot feel extra special. It’s stainless steel, but it has a softer, warmer look than the usual shiny kind.

It also holds plenty of tea, which makes it great for everyday use, especially when you want more than just one small cup.
