we wash our hands way more than we realize. usually on autopilot, rushing to the next thing…
one study found people wash about 12.7 times a day, for 34.59 seconds on average. passed the standard 20.
but what got me wasn’t length, it was how:
slow
calm
mindful the practice was.
after burnout and constant stimulation, i think a lot of us are craving a pause, & not another ritual to squeeze in.
you already have one. it just gets lost in the urgency of the day
so next time:
feel the water
notice the temperature
smell the soap
feel the lather
take a few extra seconds
you’re already doing it anyway, that’s the difference between a routine & a ritual
not new rituals. yours, noticed
