📚🕯️ Q U I C K History of Candles:

👉🏻 Cultures around the world have been using the flames of “candles” for centuries now. To illuminate their homes at night, aid travelers in the dark, and for various religious ceremonies. Though, we do not know the entire history of candles and its true origins — historians have said Egyptians were using wicked candles in 3,000 B.C. However, ultimately crediting the ancient Romans who would roll papyrus repeatedly in melted tallow (animal fat) or beeswax (beginning of 1000 BCE).

👉🏻 However, in the East there are records of these discoveries as early as before 300 BCE. China is said to have used rice paper which was then rolled into a tube for the wick, the wax was made out of an indigenous insect and then combined with seeds. In Japan, candles were made of wax extracted from tree nuts, while in India, candle wax could be made by boiling fruit of the cinnamon tree. Various marine life (whales, fish) and even Yak butter (Tibet) were utilized during this time given their oily properties.

🫶🏻 We now have the luxury of burning and easily obtaining scented candles made from a renewable, plant-based material that is safe for our health and homes!
