La Preparazione.

The art of preparation.
A quiet pause for the modern Roman woman before she steps forward.

We invited you to step into that world.
To take a seat, and think of one word you would want to hear before stepping forward…
And to leave that word behind for the next person.

I watched so many of you pause. Reflect.
And leave a beautiful note for a stranger… so they could feel that too.

It wasn’t until I saw it happening in real time that I realized how powerful it was.
When one person felt confident, lighter, happier… they passed it on.
It spread without anyone even trying.

And in a time where there is so much noise, pressure, and comparison…
this felt like a small but meaningful shift.
A reminder that there is room for all of us.
That we can lift each other up.

It felt like magic.

Thank you to everyone who stepped inside, who wrote a word, who felt something, and who uplifted those around them.

Being back in Japan after many years, now viewing it as a mother, designer and nature lover, I fell in love with it again in so many new and mesmerizing ways! ⁠
⁠
I was so impressed by the country’s natural beauty, the kindness of its people, the food, and, of course, the architecture and design. Everything was so well planned out, making Japanese cities easily accessible to everyone (something I’m very passionate about, as you know).⁠
⁠
From cancelled flights to shoes-off tours of 500 year-old castles, trips to art museums and countless soufflé pancakes, this trip was an unforgettable whirlwind.⁠

Let’s strip the sexy layer off interior design and talk about something that most of us will silently struggle with one day - disability and aging.⁠
⁠
Watching my dad navigate muscular dystrophy has been a difficult but eye-opening experience. I’ve become aware of how challenging it can be for those with impaired mobility to move through a world simply not built for them. Witnessing my dad’s journey has fundamentally changed the way I view accessibility. Thoughtless design elements such as toilets that are too low or uneven flooring can rob those with mobility issues of their independence.⁠
⁠
Here are three things I would NEVER include when designing a home for an aging or mobility impaired loved one, because everyone deserves dignity.⁠
