Title: Aji's Love Letter
She never held a pen, so she used the rolling pin

In Canada, we are taught to say, "I love you." However, some Indo - Caribbeans (especially the older generations) showed love by actions. More than likely, it was something warm, delicious, and made by hand. It is usually followed by the words " Go tek food and eat." That was love in a caribbean home.

This one’s for any fellow Caribbean whose identities are misunderstood, whose connections are questioned or disturbed because of the spaces we share.

The Caribbean beats strongest with African and Indian roots, yet its soul is woven from the threads of many peoples and histories, creating a tapestry of diversity and strength.

The Whitby anchor rests heavy with the weight of history—bearing the journeys of indentured laborers brought across oceans, a silent witness to colonial chains. The dholak’s rhythm and the boat’s voyage pulse with life, echoing a Caribbean forged in resilience. Beneath this vibrant culture, generational trauma lingers—whispers of systems where we rarely hold the reins. This is our story: of survival, fusion, and reclaiming power.
