A.Y. Jackson served in the First World War both as a soldier on the front lines and later as an official Canadian war artist.

Here, we find him back home, observing the changing seasons from a remote hillside in Ontarioโ€™s Algoma District.

His painting ๐˜๐˜ช๐˜ณ๐˜ด๐˜ต ๐˜š๐˜ฏ๐˜ฐ๐˜ธ, ๐˜ˆ๐˜ญ๐˜จ๐˜ฐ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข (1919โ€“1920) captures a sudden snow flurry, its diaphanous wisps of grey evoking the smouldering battlefields Jackson witnessed in Northern France and Belgium.

This work reflects the profound impact of wartime experienceโ€”not only on Jacksonโ€™s life but on his art. The quiet landscape becomes a space of remembrance, loss, and resilience.
