An impressive pair of 18th-century English carved giltwood torchères or pedestal stands, designed in the bold Palladian manner associated with the celebrated architect and designer William Kent.

Of exceptional scale, each torchère stands approximately 60 inches high and is surmounted by a circular platform above a richly carved architectural stem incorporating classical female terms, scrolling acanthus foliage, geometric ornament and deeply carved decorative details.

English, 18th century, in the manner of William Kent.

“Liseuse” (The Reader) – Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824–1887)

A beautiful and romantic 19th-century French sculpture depicting an elegant young woman absorbed in her reading.

Exquisitely detailed in gilt bronze and ivory, this finely executed figure captures the grace and refinement of the Belle Époque, from the delicate features of her face to the intricate folds of her flowing gown.

Standing 13 inches tall, Liseuse is a wonderful example of the artistry and workmanship associated with the celebrated French sculptor Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse.

This extraordinary 19th century red lacquer Chinoiserie cabinet combines beautifully painted gilt landscape decoration with one of the most elaborate carved giltwood stands we’ve had in the shop.

The cabinet opens to reveal three fitted drawers and generous storage, while the spectacular stand and crest are covered with carved putti, flowers, fruit and sweeping Baroque scrollwork.

A wonderful example of the European fascination with Chinoiserie — dramatic, decorative and impossible to ignore.

A rare, spectacular vintage Italian Murano glass floor “fountain” lamp dating to the latter half of the 20th century. The sculptural lamp features a tall column formed from a series of ribbed pink blown-glass spheres, rising from a matching circular copper base.

The upper section is dramatically arranged with more than 100 individually hand-blown glass rods, worked in graduated tones of clear, pale blue, yellow-green and pink. The rods rise and cascade in varying lengths to create the appearance of an illuminated fountain or spray of water, with curved pink glass elements falling gracefully around the perimeter.

When lit, the central light source illuminates the textured glass rods from within, producing a striking shimmering effect and emphasizing the subtle variations in colour throughout the glass.

An exceptional statement piece combining Italian Mid-Century design with the exuberant decorative quality associated with Murano glass lighting of the 1970s and 1980s.

Measures 7 1/2 feet high.

✨ Just Arrived — Vintage Sherman Jewelry ✨

A wonderful collection of Sherman jewelry dating to the late 1950s has just arrived at Bernardi’s Antiques.

Founded in Montreal by Gustave “Gus” Sherman in 1949, G. Sherman & Company became one of Canada’s most celebrated names in costume jewelry. Sherman was particularly known for his use of brilliant Swarovski crystals, dramatic colour combinations and glamorous designs that perfectly captured the elegance of the 1950s and 60s.

These newly arrived pieces are all from the late 1950s — one of the most desirable periods for Sherman collectors — with beautiful colours, sparkling stones and unmistakable mid-century glamour.
