One of SAI's early residential projects was featured in The Wall Street Journal last week. Designed by our Founding Principal Jim Strasman, this unique bridge house suspends over a stream and sits on a picturesque 240-acre terrain. The 4,800 sqft structure resembles the covered wooden bridges that are prevalent throughout parts of New England. Click the link below to read the full article written by E.B. Solomont.

The roughly 140-feet-long by 20-feet-wide Stowe home sits above a stream that is fed by a small waterfall.

Happy Canada Day Long Weekend!๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

Today we'd like to feature one of SAI's early commercial projects - Bank of Canada St Andrew's Court in Ottawa. This project was completed in 1981 as the additional building for Bank of Canada Head Office. The building integrates the historically designated St Andrew's Church into the overall composition. Cladded in granite, glass and green metal panels, the tower echoes the patinated copper roofs of the Parliament.

GO Transit Kitchener Bus Facility with Train Layover is a Gold certified project completed in 2018. The building is bounded to the south by the busy Metrolinx rail corridor. SAI carefully designed the south facade with a series of architectural elements to present a visually interesting scenery for train commuters.

The design of the south elevation is articulated by a continuous rhythm of alternating vertical slabs of integrally white coloured precast concrete ribbed panels and strip windows. The resultant rhythm creates a cinematic experience when viewed by passengers from a passing train. The vertical windows offer glimpses into the interior function of the bus storage area and permit natural light to permeate into the interior of the storage garage.

Did you know the TTC Eglinton West Station will be renamed next year?

Designed by SAI's founding principal Jim Strasman and Arthur Erickson Foundation , the Eglinton West Station has been serving the Cedarvale neighbourhood and nearby communities since 1978. The station building features coffered concrete ceilings and extensive brick wall finishes, distinguishing it from other Toronto Transit Commission stations.

The name Eglinton West is set to change to the more neighbourhood-specific Cedarvale station when the connecting Metrolinx Eglinton Crosstown LRT station of the same name opens in 2023.

By next year, the station's entrance, platform, and other wayfinding signage will be replaced with ones bearing the new name.
