A little millwork lesson from the studio, shall we?

The profile you choose can completely change the feeling of a space. We often turn to three favourites: thin shaker, tongue-and-groove shaker, and traditional shaker.

A thin shaker feels a little more tailored and understated, tongue-and-groove adds texture and a sense of craftsmanship, while a traditional shaker brings a more classic, timeless character.

There’s no one “right” profile — we believe its about choosing one that supports the architecture and the feeling you want your kitchen to evoke.

With Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend and all the up coming holiday hosting, we’ve been thinking about the rooms that bring everyone together. A dining room should feel just as inviting on a Tuesday evening as it does when the table is full and the candles are lit.

For our project, we colour drenched the walls, ceiling, and trim, pairing the dining table with neutral checked-upholstered chairs and collected details throughout. A cozy fireplace completes the space, creating a room meant for long dinners, good conversation, and gathering around the table. Because the best dining rooms aren’t just designed for a beautiful table setting — they’re designed for the memories that happen around it.

The last time we shared this project was back in July — and things are looking very different around here.

We’re officially in the final stretch before load-in, and watching this one come together has been so good. The rooms are taking shape, the details are landing, and we’re getting very close to the fun part! ✨

A peek inside a few of the darn sweetest kids’ bedrooms from our latest ✨

There’s something so special about designing kids bedrooms. They should feel playful and full of personality, but also like a place they can grow into and make their own.

We love layering pattern, colour and textiles to create that feeling. The trick is not making everything match, but finding little connections between each piece - a colour that repeats, a pattern that picks up another, or a textile that brings a bit of softness and warmth to the room.

The result is a space that feels collected, cohesive and, most importantly, like it belongs to the child who calls it home.

It’s been quite the week around here, and what better way to come back down to earth than with a fresh look at home.

A year and a half after we first photographed the cabin, we found ourselves behind the lens again—this time with a little refresh, a few new layers, and a whole new perspective. There’s something so exciting about revisiting a space you know intimately and seeing it evolve in ways you couldn’t have imagined the first time around.

These photographs are also making their way into a very special project we’ve been quietly working on… which makes sharing them feel that much more exciting.

A fresh chapter for the cabin, and one we’re very happy to finally let you in on.

Still trying to find the words for this one.

Being named House & Home’s Designer of the Year for 2026 is such a profound honour. I’m incredibly grateful, and I don’t take a moment of it for granted. After so many years of building this business, following my instincts, taking chances, and pouring so much of myself into the work, this recognition feels incredibly special.
Ashley Montgomery Design has always been about more than creating beautiful spaces. It’s about the people we work with, the stories we get to be part of, and the feeling of creating something that will be loved and lived in for years to come.
To my incredible team, thank you for your talent, your heart, and for caring as deeply about this work as I do. I couldn’t do any of this without you. To our clients, collaborators, builders, trades, and everyone who has supported AMD along the way, thank you for trusting us, challenging us, and giving us the opportunity to do what we love.
And to House & Home, thank you for this incredible honour and for continuing to celebrate Canadian design and the people behind it.

I’ve always believed that the best things happen when you stay true to yourself, trust your vision, and keep showing up for the work, even when the path isn’t always clear. This is a pretty special reminder of that.

Feeling very grateful, very proud, and very lucky to do what I do.

A little pantry with a lot of personality.

Bright, playful, and layered with just the right amount of charm — from the small-scale block print wallpaper to the classic V-groove paneling, every detail was chosen to make this hardworking little space feel anything but ordinary.
