A server station for
Larch treated in the shou sugi ban style, resulting in a deeply charred, textured surface. A treatment most often seen on the exteriors of buildings, brought indoors here as part of a working service piece.
Traditionally valued for its resistance to weather, moisture, and insects, this material choice isn’t an obvious one for an interior that sees daily service. The char was epoxy stabilized to improve durability while preserving its character. We’re grateful to AnnaLena for trusting the idea and taking a chance on something unconventional.
That texture is contrasted with a thick stainless steel top forming a built in cubby for server trays, while maintaining cohesion with other stainless steel elements throughout the restaurant.
