People know Knight Varga Interiors as dog loving designers, so when Sherwin Williams introduced its Colormix® Forecast 2027, REWILD, it seemed only fitting to find a palette for each of our studio dogs.

And the inspiration was right in front of us.

Bleu’s silvery-grey fur, pink puppy belly and Salty Dog blue collar. Reese’s rich chocolate coat, crisp white bow and joyful flash of fuchsia. Chia’s black-and-white curls and soft floral bandana.

Three very different personalities. Three colour stories pulled directly from the details that make each of them unique.

Travel has a way of changing what you notice.

In Japan, it was the contrast that stayed with me. Centuries old traditions against contemporary architecture. Quiet temples and crowded streets. So much attention to detail mixed in with the ordinary moments of everyday life.

As designers, we are always looking. At proportion, light, materials and colour, but also at how people use spaces, how old and new live together, and how a place makes you feel.

Not everything we notice comes home as a design idea. But somehow, it all becomes part of the visual library we carry around with us.

The Designer’s Eye is a new series sharing some of what catches ours - at home and away.
