Here's a very special project we recently completed. These clients are opting to downsize their home and move into a one level rancher. They are optimizing their lives to age in place. These are services we hold in high regard. No matter what stage you are at in life, feeling safe and comfortable in your home is top priority, and accessibility is foundational.
For this project we converted a bathroom to have a curb-less shower, allowing you to walk right in without stepping over anything. This can help if you are ever using a walker or wheelchair. To achieve this, we had to open up the slab and create a 2" drop to allow the shower pan to sit flush with the rest of the floor. We incorporated heated floors for comfort and tiles with some texture to keep slipping hazards to a minimum. We also added backing in the framing to accomadate grab bars in the future. Not all ageing-in-place improvements need to happen at once, but thinking ahead can save clients thousands.
We work with our clients to optimize any home they live in. When considering changes to facilitate ageing-in-place, consider this:
-Wider doors for easier access with walkers/wheelchairs/scooters etc
-No stairs or large transitions
-Curb-less showers
-Backing installed in walls where grab bars may be installed in the future
