The final reno days 🪴

These last few days have been the longest and the ones where it feels like the most has happened.

We FINALLY got internet, which meant I could actually start setting up the backend of the shop instead of just staring at all the things I couldn’t set up without it. The online shop is stocked and officially live, two plant deliveries made it here (one on its own timeline but we got there) and after a small battle with the POS hardware, checkout is functioning too.

More importantly, all of the boxes and piles of things I’ve been stepping around for weeks finally started making their way onto shelves. Products got unpacked, plants moved in and this place started looking a whole lot less like a renovation project and a whole lot more like The Moody Fig.

And then the storefront sign permit came through and THE SIGN WENT UP. 🥹 Even cooler, my brother got to be the one to install it.

Is the shop completely finished? Definitely not.

The potting station still needs its paneling, a few plants and pots are waiting for me to decide where they live, the back end needs some serious reorganizing and I have approximately a million tags left to make.

But we’re close enough that it’s time to stop hiding in here with the door locked.

So we’re soft opening TODAY! 🌿

This week is very much our figure out all the little things before the big day week, so hours will look a little different:

Friday (TODAY): 1-6pm
Saturday: 10-6pm
Sunday + Monday: Closed

Starting Tuesday, we’re officially into regular hours:

Tuesday–Saturday: 10-6pm
Sunday: 10-3pm
Monday: Closed

And then…

GRAND OPENING: SATURDAY, OCTOBER 3rd 🎉

Also our Grand Opening Giveaway closes at midnight tomorrow! Winner will be drawn Sunday ✨

Days 9–11 🪴

A lot happened. Very little of it in the order I would have preferred.

The St. Jacobs booth is officially EMPTY and everything has made its way over to Woodstock. The pipe shelves got their boards, the potting station finally has growers pots and my rogue book order got tracked down and decided to show up too.

The wrong internet tech was sent so the cable install hasn’t happened and I’m still trying to get the right appointment booked. At this point internet may genuinely be the final thing between me and opening the doors.

My sidewalk sign order also got cancelled so a replacement was panic ordered but the main storefront sign is officially finished production and scheduled to go up this week!

The utility sink idea was a no go but I found a workaround with a sink attachment so watering jugs and cleaning buckets are at least sorted.

And then there are the boxes.

So. Many. Boxes.

Storage space is very limited so the strategy is officially get everything out of the box, get it onto the floor, make it pretty later.

Next up: internet cable install (hopefully), merchandising, POS and PLANT ORDER.

And if the last few things fall into place, I may be opening the doors for a little soft opening later this week 🤫

Days 6–8 🪴

These days were mostly a blur of moving boxes, receiving deliveries, moving half the St. Jacobs booth over, finally getting the string lights up and installing grow lights with a level of precision that absolutely did not match my current energy level.

They were also the days of all the little fires.

The internet saga. Realizing the sink is physically too small to properly fill watering jugs or even a mop bucket. The hot water tank deciding now was a great time to stop working. Back ordered shelves. A rogue book delivery.

Basically, a lot of very small things taking a very large amount of my remaining patience.

The exhaustion has officially caught up with me and I’d say the couch has probably seen more productive hours than I have at this point.

But in between the troubleshooting and the “five minute” couch breaks, the shop is actually coming together.

Still we wait for the internet install, and then it’s just the small matter of tearing down the market booth, moving in the extra shelving, setting up checkout + the repotting station, ordering plants, finishing the POS, merchandising the entire store, and getting the sign installed.

No biggie 😅

Even with all that the soft opening is officially on the horizon and a Grand Opening + Giveaway will finally be announced soon! 📣

And just like that, the St. Jacobs chapter has officially closed.
Saturday was my last market day, so now it’s time to start tearing down the booth and bringing the last of it over to Woodstock.
Somewhere along the way the booth became part plant shop, part plant therapy. A place to ask what the heck your plant was doing but also somewhere to just soak in the greenery for a minute and pretend everything is just fine.
More than anything I’ll miss all the people I got used to seeing every week: vendors, staff, locals, and the ones who quietly became genuine friends along the way.
St. Jacobs gave me somewhere to start, figure things out, and apparently enough confidence to sign a lease.
Very ready for what’s next. Still a little weird that this part is actually over.
Onto Woodstock. 🖤

Day 4 & 5 🪴

Day 4 was not worthy of its own post, I’m still internally grumbling from it.

It was more painting, more second coats, more touch ups and more wondering how there was STILL something that needed paint. The security system also got installed, so plant snatchers beware.

Day 5 was a very satisfying reminder that all my overthinking was worth it.

The floor plan finally came to life, patting my prior event planner back for that.

The plant shelves are built, the display table are assembled, the pipe shelves are up and the couch has finally moved in.

Next up is getting the lights off the floor and onto the ceiling, adding the grow lights and finally filling all of these painfully empty shelves!

Mum has also given the couch her stamp of approval, so at least one area of the store is officially ready for opening.

Day 3 🪴

We have officially reached the stage of the shop makeover where having electricity feels very exciting.

The electrician was in, outlets installed, and we can finally plug things in without strategically planning around the one outlet in the back. 🙌🏻

We also FINISHED THE CEILING! Trim is painted, second coats are on and if you see any unevenness, no you don’t.

A very special shoutout to my sister, who has helped me tackle SO much of the painting and somehow keeps showing up for more. I genuinely could not have gotten this far this quickly without her, even if we did accidentally turn ceiling painting into a very aggressive neck workout.

We were quite literally racing the sun because while we now have electricity, we still don’t have overhead lights. So please enjoy these increasingly moody photos as daylight slowly abandoned us.

Tomorrow is a big one: shelving and display tables go up and hopefully the string lights too. Then I can finally start tackling the mountain of boxes that has been quietly taking over.

Almost time for this construction zone to start looking like an actual plant shop. 🖤
