Just look at all these little owl personalities!

What a wonderful day we had at our Whooo Loves Fall painting workshop at the Welland Community Centre.

We had 16 painters join us, including 6 familiar faces and 10 ladies attending one of my workshops for the first time. It was so much fun watching everyone take the same design and make it completely their own. No two owls turned out alike!

This painting included lots of different techniques, and everyone did such a wonderful job. I especially loved seeing the different expressions and personalities emerge as the day went along.

Thank you to everyone who joined me, and for all the lovely comments about the workshop. I truly enjoyed spending the day painting with you.

I think these faces say it all... and I mean both the ladies and the owls! ❤️

Day 10

And for my final day, I’m bringing it right up to the present with Roses Along the Way, my Bell Box painted for the City of Welland’s Art on Bell Boxes project.

This one was definitely a different kind of canvas! Painting outdoors, working around the weather, chatting with neighbours and passersby, and watching these roses come to life right in the community made this such a memorable experience.

Looking back over these 10 days, it’s pretty amazing to see where creativity has taken me, from painted furniture to canvases and now public art.

A big thank you to the lovely ladies who nominated me for this challenge. Steel Art and . I’ve really enjoyed revisiting some of my past work and sharing a little of the journey along the way.

For Day 10, I’m changing things up a little. Instead of nominating specific people, I’m nominating anyone who would like to join in! If you’d like to share your art, creations or creative journey, consider yourself nominated. I’d love to see what you’ve made.

Tomorrow is painting day! 🦉🍂

I’ve been busy getting everything ready for tomorrow’s Whoooo Loves Fall workshop at the Welland Community Centre.

I’m looking forward to spending the day painting with 18 ladies and seeing all the different personalities that come out in their owls.

That’s one of my favourite parts of teaching. We can all start with the same design, but somehow no two paintings ever turn out exactly alike.

Can’t wait to see this room filled with owls tomorrow!

Day 9

A little trip to the coast today!

For this dresser, I first painted the soft, colourful background, then added a lighthouse decoupage transfer. From there, I picked up my brushes again and extended the scene, adding waves and other details so the transfer became part of the overall design. I had a little fun using AI to help stage the photo. The furniture makeover is all mine.

And while you’re here, be sure to check out the talented ladies who nominated me for this challenge Marlene Steele Art and Aspects.

Day 8

This cabinet was designed with four interchangeable looks, so it can change with the seasons. And I have to say, the fall version might be my favourite. Those beautiful autumn leaves seem right at home this time of year. I had a little fun using AI to help stage the photo. The furniture makeover is all mine.

Thank you again to the lovely ladies who nominated me for this art challenge. Marlene Steele Art and Aspects

Today, I nominate Wendy Molinaroli Art to share her creative journey. Please check out these talented ladies!

Day 7 of my 10-Day Artist Challenge

Well, my “Jacqueline of all trades” tour continues! 😂

This cabinet has actually had more than one makeover over the years. It started life in that familiar golden oak finish, and at one point I had painted folk art on it. Eventually I decided it was time to reimagine it once again.

For this transformation, I used a beautiful decoupage paper by Jackie Strydom of The Painted Pinto, then used paint to blend and extend the design beyond the paper and across the cabinet. The original photo received a little virtual restaging, but the furniture and artwork are unchanged.

And here’s something pretty cool about Jackie: She later created the Journey West King Bed for Landman. I thought it was wonderful to see Jackie's work featured on a television series!

And while you’re here, be sure to check out the talented ladies who nominated me for this challenge and the wonderful artists I’ve been sharing along the way. Marlene Steele Art and Aspects

Day 6 of my 10-Day Artist Challenge

Today I’m sharing a watercolour that is especially close to my heart. This painting is called “Woodend,” and was inspired by a photo of two of my grandchildren enjoying a walk in the woods.

Looking at it now, I have to smile at those little hands disappearing inside their sleeves. I’m guessing either it was a chilly day, or those coats were just a little too big for them! 😊

Looking back at all the different forms of art I’ve explored over the years, I’m beginning to think I’m a bit of a Jacqueline of all trades! 😂 I’ve never been very good at sticking to just one creative lane. And maybe that’s what this challenge is really reminding me of. I simply love to create, learn something new, and see where it takes me.

Today I’m nominating Laurie Lietka to join in the fun! Be sure to check out Laurie’s work, as well as the talented ladies who nominated me for this challenge and the other wonderful artists I’ve shared along the way. Marlene Steele Art and Aspects

Day 5 of my 10-Day Artist Challenge

Meet Spencer, a handsome and decorated German Pinscher from right here in our local community.

I really enjoyed the challenge of trying to capture his expression and all those beautiful warm tones in his coat. When I was learning more about painting animals, one of the wonderful resources I followed was ’s Pet Portraits and Wildlife Art. If pet portraits are something you’d like to explore, her work is definitely worth checking out.

And while you’re here, be sure to check out the ladies who nominated me for this challenge Marlene Steele Art and Aspects.

Day 4 of the Artist Challenge 🎨

This dresser is still one of my favourite furniture transformations. I painted it several years ago while I was a member of Llewellyn Krastev’s Worn To Whimsy , and her wonderfully artistic approach to painted furniture was a big inspiration for this piece. There was something so freeing about treating an entire piece of furniture like a canvas.

For Day 4, I’m nominating Evy's Vintage Creations to join in and share some of her creativity with us!

And thank you to the artists who nominated me Marlene Steele Art and Aspects .

So many talented ladies mentioned in today’s post! If you have a chance, check out their beautiful work.

Sometimes things don’t go quite as planned, but they turn out pretty special anyway. 🍂🎨

Today’s Fall Door Hanger Workshop ended up being a class of one, so we slowed things down, simplified a few techniques and had fun playing with colour.

She told me how much she appreciated the one-on-one help, and just look at what she created! ❤️

Sometimes a small class can make for a pretty wonderful afternoon.
