Hanging dried flowers at a farm barn in the Lower Mainland, and I wanted to grow every single one 💜

Strawflowers, statice, amaranth and bunny tails are all easy to add to a cut flower garden, and they dry beautifully for winter.

Deer-resistant cut flowers that survived my unfenced front garden 🦌🌸

If you have deer, a small garden, or you’re a beginner, start with these 3 easy cut flowers:

1️⃣ Snapdragons: cold resistant, early blooms, and they keep going all season
2️⃣ Zinnias: tons of colours, hardy stems, and loads of blooms per plant
3️⃣ Cosmos: whimsical and sweet, with single or double petals and endless flowers

Deer ignored all 3 in my front garden, which isn’t fenced. Deer-resistant isn’t deer-proof, so test a few in your own garden first.

Meet the Garden Criminal. 🌼

He means well. He really does. But after he “helped” by mowing over my peonies (TWICE) and “weeding” an entire bed of perennial poppies, he was officially relegated to heavy lifting.

Now he hauls the buckets, I grow the flowers, and the plants stay in the ground. Marriage is about compromise. 😂

Watch this bowl turn into a bouquet 🌸

No floral foam, just a kenzan (a Japanese flower frog) and a handful of flowers grown in our field in West Kelowna. Dahlias, cosmos, snapdragons and buddleia, all cut this week.

Flower season is winding down here in the Okanagan, so this is one of the last big arrangements of the year 🍂

Me, a West Kelowna flower farmer, watching the dahlias bloom their little hearts out knowing frost is coming for them: 🥲🌸

Season’s almost over and I am NOT emotionally ready. Most of my bouquets are already spoken for, so I’m just out here in the Okanagan, hugging every last bloom like it’s the final episode.

Follow along for the off-season arc: floral-inspired pottery, farm chaos, and flower subscriptions and custom bouquets next year. I promise I’ll be fine. (I will not be fine.) 🌻

YOUR BOUQUET HAS TOMATOES IN IT. 🍅🌸
And honestly?
She understood the assignment.
Not every bouquet needs to be roses and peonies.
Sometimes the best arrangements come straight from the garden.
These tomatoes were too pretty to leave in the vegetable patch.
So I did what any slightly feral flower farmer would do…
I put them in a bouquet.
Paired with nasturtiums.
Because apparently I have decided vegetables deserve a seat at the floral table. 😂
And THIS is exactly why I love growing my own flowers.
I’m not limited to what’s sitting in a wholesaler’s cooler.
I can walk through my garden and think:
“Yep. That belongs in a bouquet.”
Farm fresh florals give you so many options.
Texture.
Colour.
Movement.
And those weird little unexpected details that make an arrangement feel completely unique.
Nasturtiums are especially fun.
Their trailing growth gives bouquets that loose, garden-gathered look.
And edible flowers like nasturtiums can be used in food too.
Just make sure anything going into food has been grown specifically for culinary use and hasn’t been treated with ornamental pesticides.
A few tips if you want to recreate the look:
🌿 Mix flowers with unexpected garden ingredients.
🍅 Look for fruits and vegetables with interesting shapes or colour.
🌸 Use nasturtiums to add movement.
✂️ Cut stems in the cool part of the day.
💧 Get everything into clean water quickly.
And don’t be afraid to break the “rules.”
A garden bouquet should look like it came from an actual garden.
Not a catalogue.
Not a warehouse.
Not a flower factory.
Just seasonal, farm fresh flowers and whatever beautiful little surprises are growing alongside them.
That’s the magic of locally grown florals.

I was trying to make a cute little ceramic suncatcher.

Unfortunately, I appear to have opened a portal to another dimension.
🌈✨🌈✨🌈

Anyway, this is what happens when you give a maximalist access to clay.

Follow along. I have absolutely no intention of becoming normal about this.
