Brushing Directions: Shake or stir well. Use a soft brush to apply 2 or 3 smooth, flowing coats to stoneware clay which has been bisque fired to cone 04. Dry-foot or stilt, and fire to cone 5/6. Thin with water if necessary.

Dipping Directions: Shake or stir well. Use dipping tongs to grasp stoneware clay which has been bisque fired to cone 04 and immerse piece into glaze in a quick in and out motion. Dry-foot or stilt, and fire to cone 5/6. Thin with water if necessary.

Dry Mixing Directions: Mix entire contents of bag with water at a ratio of 1 liter of water per kilogram of dry glaze to start. Mix with a drill and mixing blade for one minute, then sieve through an 80 mesh screen. Once sieved, check the density of your glaze with a hydrometer and add water to bring the specific gravity to between 1.42 and 1.45 for dipping. It may be necessary to adjust your water again 24 hours after mixing your glaze. Some glazes have ingredients that are soluble in water and or ingredients that absorb water. ⚡️

Characteristics of this clay body
Same as M340 with added manganese to give a brown speckle in oxidation firing.

February 2023 -REVISED- Previous versions of M340S had a tendency to bloat when fired to cone 6 or when fired in slow firings at cone 5. This newly revised version has been reformulated to widen it's temperature range and mature at cone 7.

The clay in dry and pugged form are darker in raw color (prior to firing) than the current M340S version. On the wheel, this new body is smoother and more plastic (because it throws better you will be able to make ware thinner and lighter). The dry shrinkage is a little higher but the firing shrinkage is less so the size of your fired ware should not change. All in all, this new body is much better, there should be no concerns with glazes, fired ware should appear the same as before.

Packaging
Plainsman moist clays are water-based and packaged in a 20 kg (44 lb) box. Each box contains two individually bagged 10 kilogram pugged blocks. Plainsman Clays are ready to use out of the box, no preparation is required.

Forming and Drying
Plainsman clays can be used in a variety of forming techniques. Hand building, slab building, and wheel throwing are just a few. Once shaped, slow and even drying is required. Once your piece is completely dry it's ready to fire in the kiln.

Firing
The tile displayed is the final fired result at cone 5. If glazing, bisque fire first and apply a glaze from the same temperature range and fire to the glaze manufacturer's suggested cone.
