The way nature reclaims us all is so fascinating to me. A skull that once housed a glowing soul, and was filled with memories of places, sounds, fears, dreams, will turn back into rich earth that grows life again, feeding the creatures around it. Incredible.

"Strange that it should be so,
Be born and live and grow,
Watch weird new worlds go by
In the blink of an eye.

Wake up to days of gold,
And shake when nights grow cold,
Hear frogs plop in still ponds
Fringed by ranks of tall wands,

And quake as mad March mirth
Stirs seeds in new warmed earth
To birth a Spring, and spray
White blooms in a green May.

With day's drum beat is done,
When dark clouds hide the sun,
Turn to cast an awed eye
On gems spilt in the sky.

Strange that it should be so-
This non stop ebb and flow,
Fixed in a flux of ghost
And flint and blood-yet most

Strange of all, though our din
Of brave words is lost in
A deaf wind's rise and fall-
The breath to say it all."

Soy wax fire starters ๐Ÿ”ฅ

My business name, Crackling Pine was inspired by the cozy noise of a crackling campfire. There aren't many things that I love more than sitting beside a toasty crackling fire. It brings such a feeling of peace and calmness. Things like this are so grounding and make you truly disconnect and live in the moment.

Other than my love for fire, the other reason I decided to start making these is I want to reduce the amount of "waste" my business creates, and I'm trying to utilize every little component right down to the wood shavings.

These fire starters will be primarily sold at craft sales (with a special price ๐Ÿ˜‰) but I've also added them to my Etsy page for everyone to enjoy!

They are created using sox wax and sustainably foraged materials (wood bark, pinecones, twigs, leaves, shavings, etc), and they are lightly scented with essential oils. The scents I have available are:
Cinnamon (my fav)
Citronella
Eucalyptus & Rosemary
Cedarwood & Fir

Local delivery in Winnipeg & surrounding areas is available, DM me to inquire, otherwise head over to my Etsy page ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ”ฅ๐ŸŒฒ

We will have loads of these available at our upcoming craft sales:
Oct 12th -
Oct 27th -

๐ŸŒฒ Chipmunk ๐ŸŒฒ

Almost exactly a year ago, I started wood burning, and one of my first projects was a chipmunk (scroll down my page to see it). Chipmunks are near and dear to my heart so it was an easy choice to start there. Looking back at my first project, It is obvious that I've made great progress as an artist this past year.

I considered deleting the photo of the first chipmunk, because it's not the quality I strive for now, but one of my favorite things to do is to look at other artists work and see the progression they have made too. Looking back at your old work and seeing your skills gradually improve is an encouragement for those times you feel discouraged when a project didn't turn out quite the way you wanted it to.

Halfway through this project I invested in a fleet of wood burning tips, and WOW they are incredible. Cannot wait to do more projects with these! The tips cut like butter into the wood and heat evenly and smoothly.

A cute little cedar waxwing to brighten your day. ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿชถ

You'll often hear these birds in fall time, as they have high-pitched calls that are hard to mistake. They generally fly in big groups and l but you'll likely hear them before you see them. I love learning bird calls and its helpful because many songbirds are so fast that they are easy to miss if you are busy gardening.

What a year!

Crackling Pine has been such an amazing way to develop new skills, connect with like-minded people, and earn extra money for new hobbies ๐Ÿคฃ

I'm so thankful for each and every one of you for supporting me and challenging me to create new things.

This project is probably my favorite so far. One of my good friends (from one of my favorite businesses, ) ordered this cribbage board for Christmas. She gave me creative freedom and I'm so happy with how it turned out.

The reference photo I used was taken by Paul Hancock . His work is not only outstanding, but he is also an ethical wildlife photographer who is very respectful to the wildlife he captures. This is extremely important to me, and I'm so thankful that I was able to use this beautiful image.

Back by popular demand, suet feeder gift boxes!

Need an easy secret santa gift? I have you covered.

Some changes we made this year:

๐ŸŒฒ The logs are shorter to accomodate more of a square shaped box
๐ŸŒฒ The logs have 4 holes instead of 3 and they are on multiple sides so you can always see your birdies
๐ŸŒฒBoxes are handmade by me, and utilize recycled cardboard

๐Ÿชถ Every box comes with a suet log bird feeder, some suet to get you started, a recipe to make your own suet, and its all wrapped up ready to be put under the tree with a bow ๐ŸŽ€

Boxes are $24 dollars each, send me a DM to order! ๐Ÿชถ๐ŸŒฟ
