The inspiration for this thesis came from an experience my family had with my late
grandfather. There was nothing uplifting about the environment or interaction to maintain physical and cognitive health within my grandfather’s facility. The hardest part was to see his personality deteriorate. I became interested in researching Care homes because of this
personal experience and my passion for transforming the standards of a typical care facility to better people’s lives. The project goal was to design an amenities center that forms an
inclusive community for elders who require assisted living to address the problems of identity loss, lack of community & engagement, and disconnection from the outdoors. The Radiance Center offers tools to improve the quality of life and give everyone a purpose. It will help
people maintain health and wellness with programs, comfortable environments, and
biophilic design.
Dining Room
A place to socialize and indulge in the finest creations that are freshly prepared daily. The
dining room is a place to gather and meet new people in a casual setting relating to
restaurant-style dining.
Resource Center
A supportive space offering professional advice, external/internal resources, and information to help families feel understood and prioritized during these times. It is a place to stay
connected to ensure your loved ones strive.
Activities floor
A place for fun and happiness. The second floor’s purpose is for learning, and self-discovery by partaking in group and individual activities or relaxing alone with a novel.
