If you are waiting on orders or replies from us, we've been starting every early morning in the garden and greenhouse instead of the pottery studio. Once the planting rush is over we promise we will get back at it!

Sometimes we take on a special project that is more than a commission: it takes hours of time, slow drying conditions, precise drawing and carving skills, late nights panicking over glaze thickness, a whole lotta clay, many trips to the kiln hovering over the control panel and worrying about the temperature and firing conditions. We call this the ultimate labour of love.

When Jenn's library colleague Greg decided he wanted a special commemorative piece for his retirement gift, we couldn't say no. In fact, we did everything we could to make it layered and interesting and precise, just like him. It was presented to him this morning in a quiet, humble ceremony, which was perfectly fitting for a quiet, humble scholar. Here's some photos walking you through the process of throwing, drying, glazing, carving, firing, glazing again, firing again, and the end result. It took months. It was so worth it.

Thank you for trusting us, Greg. And happy days watching baseball and reading in the sunshine.
